When I think back on the games I've played this year, and which I've enjoyed the most, I think of Hades again and again. I've played Supergiant's other games before, and they're one of my favorite indie games studios, but Hades has excelled in so many ways, and is their most enjoyable game yet to me. The game is great fun, always makes you want to play another escape attempt, the difficulty gives the player a great progression path, and there are options to make the game easier or harder, to suit the experience you're looking for. This game got me interested in rogue-lites again; the music, storytelling, and combat are all superb.
