This game is truly wonderful. Probably my favorite game on steam. So much content, so much polish. Released in 2011, and 4 years later is still recieving MASSIVE content updates for free (1.3 update inbound). No way I don't recommend this incredible game.

Comparisons are often made to minecraft, but the two are very distinguishable. While Minecraft focuses on the building and sandbox aspects of its worlds, Terraria focuses more on the combat and exploration. You'll start in your generated world with nothing more than a copper pick, axe, and shortsword but by the end of the game you'll be very powerful and it feels great. You'll attract NPC characters that will sell various items to aid you and in short order you will have constructed a thriving village of helpful NPCs. The boss fights are very fun and require lots of preparation. Better brew the right potions, make sure your clockwork repeater has enough crystal bullets, and bring lots of healing items. I can't say enough about this game.

Better with friends, and steam server integration is coming in the 1.3 update.

It's worth full price, but often goes on sale for $2.50. There's little to no reason not to experience this game.
