For the Gnorps. Great game for £5, normally have this running all day while I'm working then when I take a break from smashing my head against a rock, I make sure my Gnorps are pulling their weight.

Pros:
Great idea
Nice graphics

Cons:
Battle timer could be longer (personal opinion)
Unit path finding can have you loose whole companies and waste valuable supplies on bombardments due to selected units climbing in and out of the same trench.

Review:

The Great War Western Front immerses players in the trenches of the First World War, delivering a truly unique gaming experience that captures the horrors of war. While gameplay mechanics are strong, some sound effects are lacking depth.

Fortunately, the high-quality graphics, attention to detail in character designs and weaponry, and realistic landscapes contribute greatly to the game's immersive atmosphere. Players will feel like they are truly over seeing the fighting across the battle field from one muddy trench to another.

However, issues such as in my opinion the battle timer, and possibly the most infuriating the issue with unit pathfinding detract from the overall experience. The battle timer often feels too short, while the unit pathfinding can lead to unnecessary losses in battles, which hampers any strategy you may try to pull off. It can be frustrating when after you have spent valuable resources on covering artillery barrage, units climb in and out of the same trench for crucial seconds leading to the rush to the enemy trench failing as the opposition opens fire on your units because the barrage has ended long before the AI has sorted itself out.

Despite the flaws, The Great War Western Front is still an excellent game that provides players with immersive gameplay, and a unique historical setting. If you're a fan of historical rts games, or the total war series this is definitely one to check out.

Early Access Review
Currently only a few hours in but I've had a lot of fun. Yes there are bugs, now I would call game breaking but it's early access and the developers seem to be very active in fixing these from what I have read. Some other reviews have stated that the lack of view range and the fact that you can shoot further than you can see as a problem. Personally I find this design choice refreshing and really gives you a sense of what could be only described as the luck of war, you might not see where the bullet that kills you came from.

As a Linux user, I have had to reinstall windows to play this title. So one thing I would love the developers to do is make this playable on Linux.

So having read quite a few reviews on here, I was in two minds whether to jump in on this game. I mean if should tick all the boxes for me. Space "sim" - check, amazing graphics - check, RPG elements - check. Though all the negative reviews were putting me off. So let's pick through some of the main themes of the bad reviews and why I feel differently:-

Space is lonely: Yes you will not be coming into contact with real people that much, this is true, though the fact that I can spend upwards of an hour without PvP interaction, makes the times when I do all the more special.

There's not much to do: You will find that some space stations/ports will only have missions that you can't do (due to your levels, more on that later) but missions are only a very tiny part of this game. There is all the roles you play, smuggler, pirate, trader, miner, bounty hunter to name but a few. With the lack of a pre made story line some players, so if you see video games as a story to be told, (I.e. uncharted, last of us etc.) then you might not get on with this, but if you prefer more open games which allow you to be the one to set your own story than this game should scratch that itch.

About the dlc: I did not back this game while in the crowd funding phase, so I can not attest to what was promised and what has been delivered, though total price (at time of writing) for the game and it's season pass is just shy of £45, it's not too bad in my mind.

Finally the ship's: Yes the design of them is less attractive than other games of this genre (Star Citizen) though you won't be left wanting with the amount of customisation available.

So in conclusion: If you like massive open world games in which you are not limited by having to complete story missions and would rather carve your own narrative in a beautifully rendered world then this game is for you, if you like the idea of space and want a to just test your skills as a combat pilot, this is also the game for you, though I would possibly wait till the game is on steam sale if this is your main driver. Yes this game has its flaws, what game doesn't, though if you can see past these, you will have a incredibly rich immersive experience.

So far so good, I was really looking forward to getting X Rebirth but having read the reviews about how bad that game was I decided to give this one a go. So glad that I did!!

Not only are the graphics for space very beautiful (due the the expense of fast travel I spend a lot of time with all power to engines on just watching space), the one main problem I have with any RPG games is grind, but this feels hardly like a grind to play.

Early access things surely can only get better. I can't wait to see what happens.

Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast!
