Did you have anything to do with the junk falling from the sky?

This is without a doubt one of the best platformers I have ever played. Gears for Breakfast really delivered on this game and I can't wait to see what they do in the future! A Hat in Time offers simplistic, Banjo-Kazooie esque combat, smooth platforming, quirky characters, and cartoony, gorgeous worlds to explore and collect in. The game stars a nameless protagonist given the nickname Hat Kid by the devs as she is travelling back home on her weirdly, lined-shaped spaceship. After her spaceship slows down by an interesting-looking planet, either because the ship needs to cool down or plot, a member of the Mafia found on that same planet breaks in to her ship and accidentally releases all of her fuel (Time Pieces) out into space and then scattered on the interesting, Earth-like planet. Hat Kid must then go on a grand adventure to recover her missing Time Pieces and return home. Along the way she meets many interesting characters. From air-headed Mafia members to jazzy Moon Penguins to a soul-taking entity in the woods. They are all quirky and never fail to warm my heart and make me laugh uncontrollably. The areas Hat Kid travels through are all so unique, colorful, and filled with things to collect and places to explore. Collecting things in this game is similar to Banjo Kazooie, but not as grand and more simplified. A Hat In Time feels like Super Mario Galaxy, plays like Super Mario Sunshine and has many of the elements and dark humor of N64 era Rare platformers. I hope the things I said above have convinced you to buy this masterpiece but if you need a more in-depth look at what the game offers, I'll make a pros/cons list below.

Pros

  • Great voice-acting
  • Simplistic but intriguing combat
  • Beautiful visuals
  • Lots of charm
  • Quirky, loveable characters
  • Unique areas to explore and to collect
  • Awesome bosses
  • A godlike soundtrack
  • Great sound design
  • Witty, dark-humored jokes
  • Fantastic dialouge
  • Smooth platforming/tight controls
  • Well-placed secrets and easter eggs
  • A good over-arching plot
  • Good subplots and stories in each area
  • Doesn't take itself too seriously
  • Outstanding animation
  • Mod Support

Cons

  • Had a texture bug but was resolved when I turned up my graphics
  • Ocassional glitches
  • Alpine Skyline can be a little confusing to navigate at times
  • Very short for a 3D platformer

    Overall Score
    9.7/10

It's not Overwatch
It's not LoL
It's not Dota 2
It's not Battleborn
Yet... it feels so familiar, yet alien...

I first heard about this game on a podcast that one of my favorite YouTuber's made. There were discussing #E32017 when they were all of a sudden reminded about a small little beta for a game called Gigantic. He then took that timeframe to shoutout the small and relatively unkown MOBA to his audience and then continued to talk about E3. I thought it sounded cool and I really love that guy's videos so I thought I could give it a shot. Fast forward 3-4 weeks after listening and I notice that Gigantic was just released on Steam. I knew this was the perfect opportunity to try out the game and see if all the praise that he was spewing was true, so I downloaded it. Now, I'm not usually a big fan of MOBA's and generally-speaking, I'm probably one of the worst MOBA players there is but I knew that I needed to try it. I got in and really loved the colorful and playful artstlye and noticed that some of the characters (or so I thought) were copycats of other heroes found in any of the games listed above. But, I neglected some parts of their design and hadn't played them yet. I said okay, this looks cool. I then played the tutorial (which left me scracthing my head a little bit) and went straight into player and bot matches. I didn't really like the gameplay when I first started out, but each time I played a match, I learned something new and realized how the game worked and how a bunch of the characters worked as well. The game and it's characters started to pour into my heart and passion started to consume me, so much so that not even 2 or 3 hours into playing, I spent 10 dollars on it. After playing this game for 5+ hours, I can finally give my review on such a wonderful and unique take on the MOBA genre that everyone (even hardcore Dota 2 and LoL players) should try and let into their's hearts.

Pros

  • Unique character design
  • Many different ways to play every character
  • Players can mold the characters skills/abilities during the game to suit their team's needs
  • The art is beautiful, yet playful and simplistic
  • Microtransactions are balanced and you can get EVERYTHING (yes even skins) for free if you grind enough
  • Fortune Cards help you grind money/gold faster
  • Takes elements from all the game listed in the beginning and uses them in a brilliant and unique fashion
  • Developer Motiga is very communicative with the community and have put a lot of love and effort into the game
  • Stamina is a really cool mechanic (if a bit wonky) that takes some getting used to
  • All the maps are unique and beauitfully designed
  • And more that I'll most likely list later as time and development on the game presists

    Subjective/Opinionated

  • Has the potential to become competitive (which I fully support, Dota 2 and LoL should be dethroned and let a new MOBA onto the competitve scene)
  • It's a little slow to get into, but you'll love it more and more after you play each game
  • It has a smooth learning curve
  • Requires 6 GB of RAM to run (for some weird reason, this is a problem to some people, but come on guys, RAM is cheap and it's 2017, everyone has at least 6 GB or more)
  • I love it a lot

    Cons

  • The game will install a seperate launcher along with it, called the Arc launcher. Not much of a complaint for me, but it might get annoying for others (Oh, and you have to make an Arc account)
  • The UI is alright but could be better
  • Not a lot of map variety (you'll mainly get Ghost Reef, but there are 2 other maps)
  • If someone leaves the game, then no one can take their spot (LoL and Dota 2 players are probably used to this by now)

    Closing Thoughts

This is posssibly the best MOBA I've ever played and I think everyone should give it a try and see what happens! I mean come on, it's free! What do you have to lose? Also, this game has a Mostly Positive because of all the 6 GB RAM complaints and the Arc launcher ♥♥♥♥. So if you want to try it, don't be deterred by it's rating because it's a damn good game. Also, the people complaning about the game itself are either LoL and Dota 2 Master Race or people who haven't played the game enough.

    My Rating

9.5/10 (I'm being a bit generous, but I really like this game lol)

Simple concept, great gameplay, amazing soundtrack, randomly generated glory, shopkeepers, gunboots, and falling down a dank, dark well. What more could you ask for?!?!

INSIDE is a 3D puzzle-platformer with a dark and rich story that you have to piece together yourself. It's engaging, gritty, darkly funny, sad, gruesome, and all around a great game. It also has a lot of achievements to collect and will keep you engaged for some time. And for a game that says not a single word, its brillant. I'm no sure if the expierence for other people would be worth it due to the games short length, but it was definently an expierence and worth every single penny. So, if you like puzzles, dark stories, kids in red shirts, heartgripping action, and platforming, this game might be up your alley. Definently GOTY 2016 nominee :)

The season pass, although not worth the price, has pretty good DLC. I recommend going on ♥♥♥.com to get it cheaper. Far Harbor is a great addition to Fallout 4 and brings it back to the days of Fallout 3, Automatron lets you build robots and meet the Mechanist once more, and Wasteland Workshop adds cool stuff to the workshop. Overall, I highly recommend it, as Wave 2 of DLC is coming out, and has DLC that will improve how settlements work, let you build your own vaults, and adds Nuka World. Let's hope that a Wave 3 will come out and add 3 more great and worthwile DLC. Thank you Bethesda :)
