EDIT: It seems that CA has heard the community's frustration and understood the feelings of betrayal. They seem to actually want to fix and mend the relationship and have taken huge steps to actually do it. They have doubled the content of the Shadows of Change DLC. They also delayed and added more content to Thrones of Decay and even prevented pre-orders for it. I appreciate the gesture of good faith and believe that things may start looking up.
