Absolutely what any Portal fan needs! Old mechanics, new mechanics, familiar tone, and new characters. I was told a first playthrough would take 6 hours. Took me 6.1 hours on record to do a first clear, learning how to put the right combination of things together. Worth your time, better than worth your money!

Base gameplay loop is a long slog, but so much to play and much endgame. Great prospects for the coming season and Y5 in 2022.

Playing this on a free weekend, struggle through 42GB of download. Discover that the game a) doesn't auto-detect your keyboard layout and b) refuses to allow symbol characters to be assigned to controls. Every control also has to be bound to something to leave the bindings menu. Probably would have bought this for cheap after trying out the story, but I couldn't even walk through the tutorial encounters.

So many (poorly explained) mechanics. Much grind. Pay-to-play-new-ways (or just grind). Tenno/10 will continue to hack/slash/shoot/smash everything that's in the way.

New open world. New fish (new spears). Wonderful community relations team. Edited for Steam Awards badge points. Edited for Steam Sale car points.

Free weekend review, did not buy.

Fascinating world and many things to do. Too many things to do, really.

Support for non-QWERTY keyboard layouts: nonexistent? You can remap the gameplay motion controls easily, but menu controls (including the settlement building interface) don't appear to have a place to remap them and they aren't mapped by position. Somewhat uncommon case, I know, but OS-mapped keyboard layout changes should be manageable...

Guns guns guns and a thrilling+troubling storyline.

My first game of the franchise, but I want to get to playing them all.

"A third person, character-locked camera," I thought, "That might make playing this genre easier." So I tried SMITE, since it's free and I already had a Hi-Rez account.

The note of a mandatory tutorial from another review was accurate, but I felt fine taking some time to re-acquaint myself with the genre and the camera system of SMITE.

After a first level cumulating in a markedly unnecessary, scantly clad character, I continued the tutorial. Level two passed without note, same for the third level. The simple, single-lane map worked and I got along fine with the controls. Then the unique mode of arena 5v5 tutorial happened:

I'm done.

P.S. if the trailer didn't tip you off that this was basically a League of Legends rip-off, playing any characters and looking at basically *any* of the UI elements of the game interface will show you a remarkable similarity...

Click click click for the achievements. Or wait for things to die, the DPS does that, too.

Early Access Review
Picked this one up for free. For an alpha-stage Early Access game, Fractured Space plays with a pretty solid amount of polish for the two rounds that I played. Think Leage of Legends, but with hulking capital ships in space. Turning all the graphics settings to minimum meant that my massively under-spec'd C2D E8400 and nVidia 9600GT could squeak by as something playable, but with none of the graphical beauty that lies underneath the pixel-filled renderings.

Quibbles/things that I want: free fly/practice single player to get accustomed to the game controls and navigation, possibly even geting to shoot some dumb, damage-sponge ships; positional keymapping for controls or the ability to remap keys, it was really hard to play on Dvorak, but that's mostly my fault.

Edit: keymap editing is on the developer's list of things to do. Tutorial mode, also. For now, jump in and probably get blown up.

Stunning demo. Some graphical flaws in the Public Test, so it was ugly and slow, but still playable as a puzzle game. If I had the time and money to purchase and then actually play the full version, I certainly would. The world/story frame is reminiscent of Portal, but as an open-exploration of the environment and its vaired features and puzzles.

Update: graphics glitches due to my Intel GPU. Unfortunate that it's not supported, but the problems were fully due to me and not the game.
