Definitely not a game for everyone, but the people that do enjoy it become obsessed with it for a good reason.

A living ecosystem of procedural animations, a game where you're just part of the world and not even really anywhere near the top of the food chain. You're not insanely strong, you don't have superpowers, your hitpoints are effectively just 1HP, the only thing that really makes you special is that you're very mobile. The community has an entire document about the movement tech of the game and it's longer than some novels.

The world is clearly the remnants of what once used to be a great society, but rather than being a dead world it's thriving with life of all kinds, most of which is food or wants to eat you instead. The lore is fairly deep but doesn't present itself upfront very much and is instead found optionally, through exploration you choose to do or by incident when traveling from place to place across the difficult world. The world was made for something much larger, clearly, and you are just a very small little slugcat.
