Early Access Review
It really feels like Timberborn is a passion project from the devs. The game is super engaging and fun to play. Even though it is in early access, it already feels like a full release. Everything that gets added on top is just a bonus.

Low effort DLC nothing more to say. Maybe it's time to stop releasing half-baked expansions and focus on developing Hearts of Iron 5 with a modern engine? The time has come.

I’m leaving a negative review, and I won’t change it (never)—this launch was a disaster (so as a reminder I am going to keep this review as it is).

I won’t list every issue since plenty of reviews already cover them, but here are the main problems:

🔹 Monetization Concerns – The game already has DLCs planned for the next few months, yet the base game itself feels unfinished. If this is the start, future monetization will likely be extremely predatory.

🔹 Unpolished Features – Many mechanics feel like they’re still in beta. Scouts can’t auto-explore, the UI is clunky, tooltips are basically nonexistent, and the overall user experience is rough.

🔹 No Cheating in Single-Player – Using tools like WeMod or Cheat Engine crashes your game. So even in offline mode, they want full control over how you play? That’s ridiculous.

🔹 Overpriced & Broken – They’re charging €130 for the Founder’s Edition, yet the game feels incomplete and missing core features.

At this price, the launch should have been smooth, not a mess. Avoid for now. Maybe even for a year or two.

At the moment, I can't recommend this game. Why?

* The AI is practically nonexistent. If your squad's tank hits a tree, they get stuck—but at least you can jump in and fix it. However, if an enemy tank hits a tree, you'll have to go searching for it. It took me 15 minutes just to find an enemy tank sitting behind one. It also seems like the developers have no plans to improve the AI.
* Missions lack dynamism, which means there's little to no replay value.
* With no functional AI, I don't expect any skirmish-style gameplay in the future.
* Only one type of map.
* Meaningful updates are slow, and their roadmap doesn’t look promising. In my opinion, the game already feels outdated for 2025 in terms of features, visuals, and gameplay.

I think people praise this game simply because it's the only new single-player tank game available right now, but it is barely a game. If you're planning to buy it, do some research first and make sure it's something you’ll enjoy. I'd say it's worth about 10 EUR/USD.

Negative review until AI is fixed.

I tested this game across multiple maps, and the AI behavior is pretty disappointing. In team matches, the AI seems to focus almost entirely on the player, which feels really unrealistic. I often found myself getting attacked by three enemy AIs at once, while my own teammates just stood around doing nothing to help.

One of my favorite maps from the original game involves starting on a small island and expanding to the mainland. In the original, the AI would move off the island and continue progressing. Now, they just build on the small island, deplete all the resources, and then just sit there.

It's frustrating to see yet another RTS game with broken AI. I don't understand how developers could create functional AI back in the 2000s, but struggle with it in 2024. It's crazy.

Currently, I'm giving this game a big thumbs down, and here are a few reasons why:

* Price: The game is overpriced compared to titles like Paradox or Total War games. It falls far short of their quality.
* US Campaign: The campaign is linear with very little replay value. Since the map unlocks in parts, you're forced to play in a very similar way each time. It feels more like a tutorial than an actual campaign.
* Battles: I can describe the battles in one word: boring. There are no formations, units are difficult to manage, and there's no depth. If you're wondering if it’s anything like Total War games, it's miles away.
* Tutorial and Features: The game lacks a proper tutorial and other features, making it hard to understand how things are supposed to work. Sometimes it feels like certain elements just don’t work.
* Game Mechanics: The game mechanics are, at best, in an alpha stage.
* Future Plans: If they only plan to release a Great Britain campaign and call it done, I wouldn't recommend buying this game, even at a 50% discount.

Sure, it’s an early access game, but it’s priced like an AA game, so that’s how I’m judging it. For now, I’d rate it a solid 5/10.

Even with its flaws, this game does not deserve "mixed" reviews.

Godsworn isn't just a game.. it's a heartfelt homage to the RTS classics that shaped my love for gaming. The strategic depth of gameplay is reminiscent of classic titles I grew up with, offering a perfect blend of resource management, unit tactics, and base building. The attention to detail in representing Baltic mythos is commendable, with each deity and creature brought to life with stunning visuals and authentic lore-inspired abilities.

What's truly remarkable about Godsworn is how a team of just two individuals managed to craft a gaming experience that rivals those of much larger studios. The game's foundation is solid, promising even more with its unique factions and more to come in the future.

While it's true that there are some areas where the game falls short, such as certain quality of life features that are noticeably absent, the overall experience still manages to shine through. There's a sense of authenticity and passion in Godsworn that you rarely find in big-budget titles, and it's evident that the developers poured their hearts into crafting a world that pays homage to Baltic mythology.

In conclusion, Godsworn is more than just a game; it's a love letter to the RTS genre and a celebration of Baltic mythology. For old school players seeking a return to the glory days of gaming, Godsworn reignites that spark with unparalleled finesse. With its solid foundation, diverse factions, classic gameplay, and a touch of nostalgia, Godsworn delivers an experience that AAA studios can only dream of. If you're on the fence about whether to dive in, let me assure you – it's absolutely worth it.

They claimed that purchasing the ultimate edition would include free DLC. However, the DLC they released comprises only two principe battlegroups with a forced skin pack. It's essentially a scam for 17,99 eur.

Relic you failed. Again.
