Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds is a side scrolling beat'em Based on the Phantom Breaker fighting game. I didn't really know what to expect when I came across it, and initially put it in my wishlist, but soon came to really have to try it out. The gameplay is nearly seemless in it's combat... if you are patient enough to learn it's nuances. It's one of those games that is very easy to pick up and button mash all day long...but is not quite so easy to master as there are different combos, and different addtional techniques which can be unlocked. You are also on a point system. The more you level up, the more points you earn (Up to 50, unless you buy the Kirisu DLC which unlocks an awesome character in a lab coat, and allows the Level limit to be shattered, and raised to 99). The points are used to raise Attack Power, Speed, and Defense. They are also used to unlock additional special abilities such as the fabled 'Phantom Breaker' super move, or being to intentially activate 'overdrive,' but don't let the pretty special abilities go to your head as a fully powered character with full speed can be devastating without a single extra technique. My overall thoughts on this eight (or nine, as I can't quite remember at the moment, haha) stage game is worth it if you are a fan of old school beat'em ups, or anime-like fighters as it incorporates the best of both worlds in this 'kawaii chibi' wonder.
