This game is really fun, but you have to go in knowing you may be beaten a lot. It's a one of a kind for sure. BHVR does have a track record of making poor choices. Hope they don't Planetside 2 this game. It presently seems to have a good sized community.

Presently cannot recommend, because there's a bug that causes the generators (the way survivors win the match) count as multiple generators, making the game unfun for Killer. I'll change my review when it is, but come on BHVR. This has been in the game for 7 days now.

Edit: This is now fixed!

They fixed a lot of the issues that made the game not so great. The balance presently is on point as well. There's not many non-viable builds.

It was confirmed they are adding a second character slot (soon tm). I can definitely feel better about recommending this. There's still work to be done, but it's shaping up way better!

Olde Review: While this game has a special place in my heart and it's truly one of a kind, I can't recommend it right now.

Creating a cool build with the clade system is super rewarding, but the inability to make more than one character means you'll have to delete your only character (and whatever progress you made) to try something new. MO1 had 4 character slots, one for each clade if you wanted. Their reasoning for only allowing one character per account is to make your reputation with that character matter.

This is completely circumvented by making another account, which is super common among veterans. I want to be able to explore all the mechanics of the game without feeling like I have to sacrifice all my progress each time. If I have to pay a little for a character slot, fair enough, but I don't want to pay two subscriptions just to have two characters.

Were this changed, I could recommend it to others.

This game has potential, but they are reeeeeal slow on releasing content and information.

What you get right now is a pretty fun experience creating a slew of different vehicles and devices. The system for making moving part is fairly straight forward allowing you to make anything from a simple door to as complex as a house that folds up into a car.

I played creative mode only a little bit. Honestly, this is probable where the game shines most at this point.

Survival mode is pretty fun, but without any major endgame goals. Collecting resources and slowly building your first rudimentary contraptions is great! Later on however, 'Dungeons' or whatever they are called do not allow you to build. It sort of defeats the purpose of being a 'Scrap Mechanic'. If your creative, you can fit a small vehicle through the entrance, but it doesn't feel like this was intended. More of a happy accident.

The combat is currently lacking. It ranges from easily kite-able melee bots to ranged enemies that blow through your health in a few hits as soon as they are agroed. It can be fun to create contraptions to kill bots, but it's sometimes hit or miss when they take damage.

I love and hate this game. On one end it's an absolutely stellar space ship physics engine. Building over engineered contraptions and just crashing hulking ships together is super fun.

The survival mode is... lackluster. Combat is essentially non-existent outside of very simple AI ships and spider aliens. Once you've got a ship into space that can mine, refine, and build parts you end up not really having much more to work towards. The loop is sort of over. You can now do everything. There's no point to specialize a ship, because a ship that does everything is more convenient.

The weather system is the only real neat survival aspect.

I've heard some of the premade campaigns are fun, but haven't really bothered to try them. I'm more interested in the survival aspects.

TLDR: If you came here for building sick looking ships, this is the game. If you came for a functional survival or exploration game, look elsewhere.

NOTE: Mods DO make the survival experience leaps and bounds better. (Enemy ai, new weapons, a shield, etc).

Fun and unique spin on the colony simulator. Similar to games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress. I'll need to play more to get a better idea of what it has to offer.

Fun game. Coming from Planet Side 2, this game has pretty much everything I like in a massive war. Battles over a huge map, Player made bases matter, Logistics matter, communication matters, and the war lasts a few weeks. The later means that things you did one day might have an effect the next. The war doesn't overstay its welcome and become stale like so many persistent heavy pvp games (EvE for example. Compared to the beginning, territory typically does not swap hand much.)

This game along with Dwarf Fortress will be what all other games in this genre are compared to for years to come. With mods, this games replayability is near endless. As I understand it, the game will never go on sale. That's okay, because the Ludeon Studios deserves every penny. If you like colony sims, this is a rare gem.
