The art alone is worth playing the game. Gameplay is fine, nothing to write home about. Worth it on sale.

Really fun game, though repetitive at times. The story had me caring for the characters and it felt well paced, though short.

There are waaaaaay too many cutscenes. You can skip them, but only by pausing and then skipping from the menu. Some levels have 10+ cutsences, no joke. It's like they artificially tried to pad the gameplay length.

It's a good Mega Man Clone, but pretty short (only 5 levels). Also has some weird difficulty. You almost never die from enemies as auto repair is broken as f, but at the same time there's annoying one hit kill platforming.

All in all worth it, but only to kill a couple of hours.
Get it on sale.

I installed this game thinking I could play a nice platformer for maybe 10 or so hours. 40 hours later...

It's a great game. Some annoying things about the way areas are connected but if you don't mind backtracking and exploring it won't bother you too much. People complain the game is too hard but honestly I suck and found it to be challenging but not impossible.

I highly recommend it.

If you like story more than gameplay and can put up with endless QTEs (a la Heavy Rain), then this game is for you. The story is awesome in nailing the tone of Batman and Bruce Wayne as characters and gets the feel of Gotham right. If you like Batman and Comics, this game/interactive movie is worth it, but only on sale.

I'm rating this as negative because if you're reading negative reviews you want a more nuanced critique of the game.

Ori has many things going for it - it's gorgeous, for starters. The music is beautiful. The art style, the aesthetic, the tone, it's all nailed to a T. The story, though simple, is evocative and simply told with minimal exposition. Honestly, the first 5 mins of this game has more story than Breath of the Wild does in it's entirety (fight me)

Where Ori really needs to be criticized though is in it's difficulty curve. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is fun, challenging, and can be really rewarding. The platforming mechanics that you unlock throughout the game are really fun and integrated well into each area. However, the game really isn't combat focused, so it doubles down on insane platform challenges and puzzles, that get progressively more obnoxious as time goes on.
I've played Celeste. I am used to punishing pixel perfect platformers. But Celeste typically restricts things to being short loops, one screen in length. Ori makes you go through guantlets of difficult platforming sections that are riddled with one hit kills. Not really much point in having a difficulty setting if you just die in one hit 90% of the time anyway.
I actually played Ori when it first came out, and I couldn't beat it. It made me angry dying and really felt like I was being punished by the level design rather than not knowing how to use the mechanics. I swore I would replay it at some point, so now, here I am after having beaten it. It was still as obnoxious as I remember, maybe even more so, but I am glad I played it.
Ori is not for the faint of heart, and I wish it was actually an easier game that was more combat focused so that casual gamers could enjoy it's beauty. I still recommend it, but if you want to beat this game, you gotta be a "git gud" gamer.
I'm gonna play the sequel next as I've heard it's better, hopefully it alleviates the problems I had with it.
