It goes without saying that if you are fan of the 1st game(Field of Glory 2) for the Ancient/Classical period to early Middle Ages, chances are you will like it. I'll address veteran players of the series. I bought and just set up a quick battle and found myself as the Norwegians fighting the Hungarians. The game looks a litter slicker more vibrant on menu start up. But it's pretty much the same menu allocation. The maps look like Northern Europe I saw. The UI has been cleaned a tad to fit period. The tool help has been changed, it's off to the center right. Just one that opens all. (Instead of the 2 divided on first game). It's color coded and it is one area that was a big improvement from first game. As for gameplay. It doesn't feel much different but there are variances in units from first game. But it's still much of the same concepts. I haven't played enough to see how the Knights perform as other units too. The last game, I've always been streaky with it. I get in the mood and play a few battles put it away a few weeks. But it's a game I come back to the last few years. I expect the same once I get through the initial playing the next couple of weeks. The models look great. It shifted to this period in look nicely. It also goes without saying, it's a certain Id imagine, that they will be adding more of Southern Europe, the Middle East. Maybe they will go into Mongol/Khwarazmian Empire and stuff further East. But right now since it's starting it's a little lean to what much of the whole Medieval spectrum but it's a great start (much how the last game untill DLC's filled it out). Soundtrack is good for game with a few sound effects. Like birds in the field. If you play this game rather often or streaky like me. I say go for it. With the bundle price it's not a bad price now. If you weren't much a fan of the first game, I wouldnt expect much difference to this one. If you have never played the last game. Read many of the reviews of the first one (I'm too tired to write up game play now, my apologies) if this is the kind of tactical wargame reading reviews you might like, pick what era you prefer to try. But now I'm just starting an epic battle. It started off in Hastings. I'm playing with Harold II. See if I can do better than in real life than how he fared...

I had left video games for a decade when a friend gave me Morrowind (who thought the game was stupid) and lent me an XBox to play it. Oblivion ensured I stayed a gamer now approaching 53 and no sign of letting up. No I havent played it much on PC yet. But my XBOX 360 sure did. Morrowind opened the door but Oblivion showed the palace within. A top 5 game since Ive started playing Pong in the Seventies for me. If youve never played it and open world fantasy you like, let Patrick Stewart lead you to the charm of this game

Paradox DLCs are too expensive. I'll pass on this one. Hears whisper in my ear "There is new HRE mechanics in this one". OK, I'll be a Paradox fanboy one last time...

When Field of Glory 2 released Rise of Persia my review of it quickly in note how glad it covered this period of Middle East warfare. So I was stoked when this was announced for Empires. I have only put a few hours into it, but I love it so far. I went with Persia. And starting its sitting in its small historical context but ready to begin pouncing quick. As Im starting to steamroll through Median lands and Babylon soon. I would say the main emphasis of this DLC is 3 theaters. Of course the Middle Eastern part. The Greek (Spartans Athens, ect) and the Rome, Syracuse, Carthage fun (when they were just infants taking baby steps and much of the region was up for grabs). There are a good amount of smaller nations to play, for the European aspect most are west as the up beyond the Balkans into that region of Europe of Germany towards Russia are not playable factions. But there are early Scythians in their respective starts. All in all I would say 15 is well worth the price for the new time frame. It has a lot to explore in new ways. If you liked the base game, I think you will like this.

If you were a little discouraged by Panzer Corp 2 (Im on the fence about it myself) what better remedy than back to Order of Battle. Ive played the first few scenarios. The Soviets are growing more fangs than the first one. Make Stalin proud. Go on the counter offensive for the Motherland
