The game is a really fun, cozy basebuilder with some great in-depth mechanics. It's very rewarding to see your town grow. There are some issues late-game tho. The AI enemies are generally either annoying or game-ending. It's tough to get to a point where you have military might and not completely stranglehold your money supply. The trade mechanics are rudimentary and can really screw you over when it comes to expensive imports vs very paltry exports.

There is a lack of overview when it comes to what produces which goods, how much of them and generally figuring out where your bottlenecks are. The game has an empty production screen which I think will provide this data at some point, but right now it's very hard to see when you, for example, need more fields or more people or more refinement buildings.

Still recommended and the game is still fun. Don't expect hundreds of hours of playtime at this point tho. Further development and mods will be able to alleviate a lot of these issues.

This game is interesting. Visually it is fascinating. The player controls the ability to reveal the environment which makes the experience of seeing highly interactive. The sound design is great as well and several sound cues had me tense up. However, the game is clearly going for a vibe that combines Gone Home and Dear Esther, as evidenced by the blurb here on Steam, but is somewhat lacking in comparison. Where Gone Home had rich detailed environments Scanner Sombre is stark and abstract. Where Dear Esther had geniunely heartfelt prose Scanner Sombre has a confusing narrative through simple on-screen messages.

Thematically it is confused, but still a worthwile experience that does something different than many other games and gives us a look at what frightening game could deliver. It is short however, and I don't think it warrants the full price tag of 10€.
