This game is interesting. Visually it is fascinating. The player controls the ability to reveal the environment which makes the experience of seeing highly interactive. The sound design is great as well and several sound cues had me tense up. However, the game is clearly going for a vibe that combines Gone Home and Dear Esther, as evidenced by the blurb here on Steam, but is somewhat lacking in comparison. Where Gone Home had rich detailed environments Scanner Sombre is stark and abstract. Where Dear Esther had geniunely heartfelt prose Scanner Sombre has a confusing narrative through simple on-screen messages.

Thematically it is confused, but still a worthwile experience that does something different than many other games and gives us a look at what frightening game could deliver. It is short however, and I don't think it warrants the full price tag of 10€.
