Shooting mechanics are poor, bad level design, mediocre and boooooooring story, graphics on very high settings look like "Resistance: fall of man" from 2006 on PS3, terrible optimisation(avg fps is 45 and lagging on an Office-PC with i5-4570, GT1030 and 8GB of RAM), It's impossible to pic which monitor I want to use for the game.

I think even 5$(or 53 uah in UA) is too much for such awful game.

Before playing this game I was confused as to why users had given it a better review than professional critics. Hopefully my review can explore why that is.

First off, overall Hogwarts is a good game. It is finished, polished and that in itself is a statement of care and respect to the gaming community from the developers. I like to think of this game as comprised of 4 key pieces - the main story, key side quests, side quests and filler.

Initially the world and way your character experiences it is amazing. This is where Hogwarts is at its best. It is immersive, enthralling and compelling. This is down to the massive width and depth of the source material which has been adapted extremely well by Avalanche.

As the initial magic of the world and early days at Hogwarts start to settle in, this is where the game starts to decline. Sadly, the rest of the game is unable to live upto this. The main story fizzles out from half way in to an unsatisfying and predictable ending. Story wise, it’s not bad, its just quite far from the level of a ‘great’ game (such as that of Skyrim, The Witcher 3, God of War, Dishonoured, etc.). Sadly, the decisions you make have no meaningful impact on the story or world aside from one decision at the end which changes very little anyway.

Aside from the relationship quests (which are imo some of the best content offered), the side quests are uninspiring radiant type quests which typically involve travelling across the map to kill something and/or collect an item and return it. Most of these feel very filler and very generic. You get the feeling the dev has packed the game out here. Whilst the world initially looks busy, it actually feels shallow because there is little depth to what it is filled with - open a chest here, complete a generic puzzle there, kill a group of enemies you have fought before, catch the same beasts you have already caught using the same technique as the last. Simply put there is too much filler and not enough meaningful story based content.

All in all Hogwarts is a sound game. It shines early on, particularly due to the amazing adaptation of the source material. But at mid game the main story beings to fizzle out. Here the relationship quests help to keep the player engaged, but the game begins to lose its initial shine, becoming more dull and finishing predictably and sadly uninspiringly.

Hogwarts is a three course meal with a starter that delights and inspires, a main that satisfies and a dessert that disappoints, leaving you hungry and wishing for something more. For fans I imagine this will be one of their favourite games (hence the reviews), however compared to other games in a non-biased, objective way (hence the critics reviews), Hogwarts is a good game. IMO it is not superb, and certainly not in the same conversation as other RPG greats. Those who argue that it is, are likely HP fans themselves and/or have not experienced the best RPG games of the last 15 years.

Yay, Ubisoft, you did it, you made a game about simple card game with a lot of glitches and don't even try to fix it. Congrats and thank you.
