It's alright. Bit of a struggle solo as the game is balanced more around duos/trios.

Played through launcher to play on another account if my time seems low.

Primary and most damning issue is the killcams. By themselves as individual players it's fine, but the problem is that person you just killed basically gets another life on that same position knowing *exactly* where you're at. I should not have to kill the same person 3 times in a row to secure their death.

Within 25 minutes on a Saturday, mid day, at the start of Summer I only got to play a single game.

Separate queues in an already niche space, in a niche genre in that space, was just a recipe for disaster.

Until this becomes free to play, I do not recommend it.

People already decided to try and imply this doesn't happen in the comments, so it's also safe to say the community is not worth engaging with. Turned off comments now.

One user has resorted to leaving comments on my profile for this review, so at this point I wouldn't even recommend the game if it was free to play.

Edit: Decided to buy it again due to the Exfil Zone mode.

Still don't recommend it, it's a confusing mess of mechanics exasperated by VR menus and controls that still need work.

The default armor and weapons the game gives you pales in comparison to people who have been playing since day one with Heavy armor and top notch guns, but due to these people having this gear, it is equally hard to actually get the items you need to sell/upgrade your hideout. Putting 15 rounds of 556 + another 8 9mm into someone should 100% be a kill, no matter what they're wearing, especially when they also struggle to hit you.

Whoever decided to throw the Suburbs BR map into an extraction shooter should be fired and never get another job in the industry, far too much open ground, way too big for a VR game, way too big for even a flat extraction shooter.

Really the biggest shame is that they directed away from their Contractors success, which was likely the best VR FPS on the market and had heavy potential if provided with enough support to just be the best VR game period, to chase a BR trend which was already dying in flat games, in a niche field, to the point that they pivoted to compete with Ghosts of Tabor, which was already a subpar game in its own right.

Elden Ring was my intro into FromSofts Souls formula, as was a lot of other players, and honestly, I enjoy MANY aspects of it. But the boss design, what has always been delivered to me as the peak content of Souls games, is absolutely horrendous here. Even something as minor/early in the game as Margit has a moveset that punishes you for playing *correctly* due to the complete randomization of the patterns.

My primary example is the Holy Knife double swing. It doesn't always happen but it's always after what you would THINK is a small opening, but now he will randomly double strike with that knife, of which is holy, so even if you have a 100% physical blocking shield you are still hurt/punished for a clear follow up moment.

And before people tell me to git gud, I have beaten Margit. And Godrick. And Radahn. And Rennala. Morgott, Godfrey, the list goes on, I essentially got to the snow area before having to stop due to real life circumstances. I never ONCE used a summon or fought a boss in coop. I never used magic. I never used the cheesy dual wield 2 handers. I never abused jump attacks. A lot of the bosses just are NOT well designed from a gameplay perspective. OBJECTIVELY.

I absolutely cannot recommend this. Maybe I'll try out previous Souls games, this just isn't it.

Edit: Had to turn off comments because Souls fans decided to show why they have a poor reputation. Cemented the feelings in my review.

Edit 2: As you can see, I put twice as many hours in as I did from my first review. I beat the game, beat Malenia, did all the things that people say is difficult, got all the story based achievements and I STILL stand by my comments on the boss mechanics.

The last few bosses of the game, (aside from Godfrey, he was fun) were complete and utter ass from multiple perspectives, the way NPC storylines had to be hunted down is a ridiculous guessing game that no one person would ever be able to figure out, and you are limited in what you can do in PVE to even get close to beating many of the bosses.

I'd say 90% of Elden Ring is solid but that last 10% is so cheeks that it drags the rest of the game down. The irony is I have enjoyed non-FromSoft souls-likes more than any of the Souls games or ER.

This game suffers from an identity crisis. Clearly it pulls from Battlefield for inspiration but it also takes "inspiration" from the extremely slow large scale tactical FPS's like Hell Let Loose and Squad. The current bandage and health mechanics do not mesh well with the extremely fast TTK and movement. Imagine if you had to bandage every time you got hit in CoD, that's what this feels like.

The game is utterly dominated by a single weapon (M4A1) across all ranges that is also available at level 1 making the level grind to get new weapons completely moot and pointless. Weapon balance generally is just terrible.

Battlebit is a "jack of all trades, master of none" type and you would be better fitted playing a more "specialized" game as the design choices were part of a kitchen sink approach.

Played at launch on the Quest 2 version, was enjoyable for a bit but any time there were more than 4-5 people around, the latency would make things impossible to deal with. The situation extends to today.

I suspect the reason is the lack of US Central servers (US West and East are the only options) but I can't be sure. Either way It's far too laggy to do anything outside of doing things completely alone, which defeats the purpose of playing an MMO.

I don't quite understand the huge positivity towards this game like it's one of the greatest VR games of all time. To me it has major flaws with what should be the highlight of VR: The gameplay and interactivity that VR brings.

Pros

- Visuals are colorful and nostalgic. Enemy animations are very high quality.

Cons

- Gameplay is repetitive after just one run
- Reloading is clunky and un-intuitive. Having to place clips in VERY specific spots just to get it to attach/go into the gun is a pain. I found myself sticking with the single shot grenade launcher and assault rifle just for semi-consistency.
- Why is the only option for holding weapons, toggle? Why can't I just walk over ammo pick ups? Why do powerups start disappearing near instantly? Many baffling design/control decisions.

To me all this game has going for it is Visuals. It breaks the nostalgia by removing key gameplay mechanics that made the games of the era it took inspiration from great or memorable.

A lot of people would say that this should have just been a form of DLC add on for the first Insomniac Spiderman and it's "more of the same". I'd echo those sentiments but I still enjoyed my time with it and have done everything I can without going into NG+ which one of my pet peeves are games that require NG+ to 100% achievements.

Gameplay wise was more entertaining than the first Spiderman due to the removal of the cheesy gadgets that could instantly end fights although with all the Venom stuns and cloaking, you'll find yourself barely even getting attacked anyway.

It's not a long game (I ended at almost 12 hours total at 100% completion) but not something I'd want to go through *twice*. I'd also say this is only worth it ON SALE because of the very short run time but it's still something I'd tell people to play if they enjoyed the first one.

Unfortunately B&S just outshines this in nearly every way.

I can see the "gem" so to speak but it's definitely not for me.

Recommend only when it eventually goes on sale. There's just not enough game to warrant the 60 dollar price tag. That said the open world is fun, the stages are the same or slight remixes of Generations levels (makes sense in the context of the story), and I appreciate the callbacks to previous games as someone who has played *most* Sonic games.

My major issues were:
The Camera which is kind of expected from a 3D Sonic game.
Somehow the homing attack feels worse to use.
Constant animations/cutscenes that really just don't need to play repeatedly. Activating, Entering, and Leaving a Stage, Unlocking and Getting a Chaos Emerald, unlocking a memory, mini boss fight introductions, etc do not need to play more than once. These really added up.
