Tex Murphy - Tesla effect is an old school point and click adventure using modern Full Motion Video and it looks pretty good. The puzzles are not particularly difficult and the story goes along at quite a quick pace. You don't have to have played the previous games in order to appreciate it, but ' obviously' some of the 'in jokes' will make more sense. This is a good fun game - made from a 'kickstarter' - and I think it captures the spirit of the original games really well. If you like 90's adventure games - definitely give this a try.

OK this a tough one, It is a short game - you will complete it all in less than 3 hours. It is another independent game though and it tells a good story and the environment is immersive. It is enjoyable - though it doesn't really do anything new. If you can pick it up for cheaps - definitely worth a punt.

OK, so where are you on First Albums. Before Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit - There was Fahrenheit. It's 15 years old and I bounced off it, when it first came out. It is a narrative game with LOTS of QTEs. The story goes in places you wouldn't expect and you can see how the team tried to make it 'edgy' - ooh lets get a naked female in there and do a sex game (top tip - don't) - lets get satanism and conspiracy theories and aliens and ancient civilisations, and a hangar. It tried to cover a lot of bases!
Is it a good game, well it's ok and its cheaper than a beer, so if you want to see how far we have come then watch the baby steps of interactive drama. You will get frustrated by stupidly long QTE scenes and the story is like an x files end of season finale. We have stereotypes and cliches, but it's video game history and it started a new genre - and for that reason, if you're into video games you should try this.

Well Eliza is a visual novel and like tell tale games it is pretty linear - though less branching if that makes sense- what Eliza does do is asks some pretty fundamental questions and it is an experience that will make you think about some really deep questions. Is pain a necessary part of being human? Is listening really all we need to do? Its a deep story and I really wished that you could have had some more agency during the therapy sessions - it really doesn't seem far fetched and the Eliza programme does use some interesting skills that anybody with a slight knowledge of active listening will recognise. I don't really think that you can call it a game, but there is a patience game that is a bit of a head scratcher. It's another Indy project and unless we support these teams then the PC wont be the experience that it is. An interesting experience.

This a lovely relaxing time sink. Its a really nice story and the soundtrack is beautiful, its not high octane puzzling it is some really chilled out - take your time, don't get frustrated listen to the music and admire the artwork, the story and music. A beautiful game that really deserves more attention - buy it and play it with your kids - it has some lovely messages about friendship and what is important in life.

FAR: Lone Sails was recommended as one of March 2020 'Must Play' games and i bought it on that recommendation.

The game is more of an 'experience' than a game and reminded me a lot of the Playstation Classic Journey. The art style is beautiful, and it is apparent that a lot of love has gone into this game. There is no real narrative, no exposition and you really make the story up yourself based on how you interpret what you see. I have heard 'post- apocalyptic' being spread around - but there's no real indication that this is the case, there's a bit of a 'steam punk' vibe with some of the vehicles - and lots of scrapped vessels. The atmosphere is industrial in some areas.

The puzzles are not really puzzles - there are switches (normally readily identifiable) and these will do something that will allow you to progress - as I say its not a challenging game> I have played it through about 4 times now. You can get the game down to an hour and a half once you know the layout - but if you do that you'll miss the experience of the journey and the opportunity to just take in the atmosphere and the sights.

There has to be a mention for the soundtrack and if you are collecting game soundtracks, then this one is a must. It can be quite haunting and the way the music builds really does bring the game to life - the music is outstanding and really relaxing.

I would recommend this game as it is a small independent developer - but don't go into it expecting a AAA experience, it is probably unlike anything else in your library and for that reason is worth a look.

Firstly, this game is beautiful - and it's also meant to be the beginning of a quest. It finishes on a cliffhanger and you'll need to wait until the second episode to see where it goes. Its a short game and the puzzles ramp up exponentially - the final dungeon was really hard and I needed to FAQ it - so there are some good puzzles to be had. Story wise - its quite heavy on lore and it has a cutesy animation style - reminds me a bit of Ni-No Kuni, thought without the great voice acting.

I enjoyed it - but its got little replay value. I'd like to think that the second game is on its way but I don't know how successful this game has been.

As a kickstarter - from a small indy studio - it's worth investing your time to support their effort. 3.5/5

Where The Water Tastes Like Wine is a game quite unlike anything else you have ever played . It could actaully be argued, that there really isnt much game to it at all, but that certainly doesn't make it bad.

The premise is that you have been tasked to collect stories and sow them to enable them to grow into bigger stories, increasing their power. Along the way you meet some recurring characters who will tell you their ife story, providing that you can tell them stories which will interest them. This is indicated by an eye icon across the top which will open as they become more interested. They will eventually tell you everything about themselves. This again doesn't do the game justice as the sheer number of stories and how they grow is large and the stories that the recurring characters tell can be quite moving.

The game seems mainly set in the depression of the 20's but there are occasional skips into other eras. Alongside the excellent writing there is also a fantastic sound track which I guarantee that you will be humming for at least a week after. There are a couple of minor flaws, at some stages the stories become a bit hit and miss to categorise, for instance one character might say 'tell me a funny story' and you might struggle to identify a story thatr was classed as funny - and something you might consider tragic they would consider funny. There was an issue on scrolling down through stories which meant that you had to hold down the mouse button and scroll down to get through the stories, I only found this out when I had nearly completed the game. Another mionr annoyance is if you're a completionist there doesnt appear to be a way of identifying which stories you have missed - short of walking around every area again - and its a big map.
Theres also a food/money/sleep balance to be kept, but this didnt really seem to add a great deal - as it was very simple to balance them out.

Is the game worth your money ? definately, it does something different in an interesting way - it hooked me for 22 hours and i enjoyed it immensely - if only i could get that tune out of my head!!

It's Zuma but with bells on - you've got a phone? So its probably powerful enough to run this game, however - its a great game for kids and doesn't involve killing/ swear words or any testing of the grey matter! Probably a bit of a waste of your gaming rig though.
