Early Access Review
Clunky and Joyless with a completely different feel than the first game. The dev is dismissing criticism of this game as early access - no bro, it feels bad to play. The previous game didn't. They spent 2 years making the gameplay significantly worse, adding tons of complexity in the parts of their design that don't benefit from it.

Even worse, the dev decided this feedback was due to unsophisticated users and rallied for positive feedback. I am a little concerned that even further from not taking and accepting the feedback, the dev is almost incapable of genuinely reviewing the critique that the experience is joyless and cumbersome. Why spend over a year doing the art yourself? It doesn't look good, it looks worse than the first game. This was a poor use of time. It would have been better to hire a contract artist and focus on the gameplay, rather than having the designer that is good at gameplay spend all their time on art - very strange development process.

really fun game, absolutely worth checking out if you like TD games and FPS games combined with base building and research. This is one of the best TD games to come out in a while, if you are a fan of the genre, check it out. It's unreal engine 5.

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite survival game on Steam.

Decent game marred by self serving devs that force the build number in the bottom right for their own troubleshooting convenience. This is a unity game where the devs intentionally put something that degrades the player experience / creates potential burn in simply because it's easier for them to troubleshoot. The early access period wasn't enough, the fact that there's a released build isn't enough, the fact that they can ask their users to submit bug reports with build versions isn't enough. This way, by forcing it on, any potential screenshot or video always has the build present, allowing for easier troubleshooting. Dev convenience > customer experience. I think that's a wretched mindset.

Early Access Review
A very pleasant surprise. The other auto battlers didn't really hook me, but something about being able to have Starcraft 2 / Warhammer 40k battles in a few minutes with tons of complexity and 0 micro is a joy to play. There's a really pleasant play and counterplay mechanic, and once a match gets lopsided it ends fairly quickly. Evenly matched contests can go on quite a while if the wins are indecisive, meaning that fun games last longer than short games. The starting cards and units mix up the start game to be quite interesting. There are a few unit combinations that show up quite a bit, however hopefully the devs can keep adding units, powerups, special abilities, commanders, to add a bit more complexity for long term health. I would say as the game stands now it's fun, balanced, quick, and fresh. Who knows where the game and the community will go long term. Right now though? Tons of fun and really enjoying it.

The gameplay is tolerable, the story is not. Please do not purchase if you are looking for an interesting narrative. The only way I'd get this is if I was absolutely desperate for open world gameplay and had played everything else. If you go that route, just be prepared for how awful the story is, and how the game is constantly interfering with your attempts to play it.
