I told myself I wouldn’t be writing a review of Phasmophobia until I pulled off the hardest challenge in the game: Apocalypse Challenge Mode 3. And today, after more than a few ghost-induced heart attacks, and one solo mission that felt like a psychological thriller, I finally did it.

So here’s my review.

Phasmophobia is one of the most unique horror experiences available right now an atmospheric, cooperative ghost hunting game that turns paranormal investigation into a tense and often hilarious social experiment. At its best, it’s equal parts creepy and collaborative, throwing players into haunted environments with nothing but their wits, walkie talkies, and an ever growing toolkit of ghost hunting gadgets.

From EMF readers and D.O.T.S. projectors to salt piles and sanity pills, Phasmophobia gives you just enough tools to feel like a professional, while constantly reminding you that you’re never really in control. Every ghost hunt is unpredictable, thanks to a dynamic AI system that adapts to your behavior, mood, and even your voice yes, it listens to you, which never stops being terrifying.

As someone who’s played since the early days, the game has come a long way. The recent overhauls equipment tiers, custom difficulty settings, improved visuals, and expanded ghost behavior have added serious depth and replay-ability. It's especially satisfying to fine tune your own nightmare with custom difficulties, which makes challenges like Apocalypse 3 both possible and punishing.

The game thrives in co-op. With up to four players, the tension and chaos escalate in perfect balance. Yet, the solo experience stands strong too intense, methodical, and genuinely unnerving. There are few games where standing alone in a dark hallway, whispering into a Spirit Box, feels this immersive.

If there’s a downside, it’s that Phasmophobia still carries the occasional jank of its early access roots. VR controls can be awkward, and certain mechanics still need polish or better on boarding for new players. That said, these are small issues in a game with such a strong foundation.

I’m giving Phasmophobia a solid 9/10. It’s one of the most original horror games out there, and it continues to grow in smart, meaningful ways. If Kinetic Games can keep expanding the ghost roster, refining the AI, and adding layers of strategy, this game could stay fresh for years to come.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go sage my real life House. Just in case.
