What a rollercoaster.
This game may not be the best out there. But sure is original.
It follows up from the first one, which left me more confused than anything; knowing what to expect, I found myself amazed at how deep the narrative was all along. Both games may have their flaws, but this kind of stories are anything but about perfection. When I found out about the lore and progressed through the story, I realized how this weird world talks about humanity. The mechanics and the map design are nothing compared to how beatiful the game looks by itself, all those critters and the characters look and feel part of their world, the backgrounds are filled with colorful and organic shapes, the buildings resonate with their environment.
Some VAs did not make the effort to put soul into their lines, I agree on that, but the dialogue is consistent and builds up the story in an understandable manner. And as grotesque they may seem sometimes, the characters are written in such a way that they manage to charm you, even if it is for a short time.
It really grows on you, this game, this world.
It's all about if you are willing to up with the antics, the aesthetic may seem umpleasant at first, the story may sound like a fever dream, the mechanics may play obtuse; but there's something beyond all that.
It's all about those moments, when you look back and appreciate the details.
