Despite the fact this is an MMO, Final Fantasy 14 is the single greatest story I've ever witnessed in any form of media. The music, the characters, the pieces coming together to make sense as you progress the story -- all of it comes together beautifully to make the critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV, that has a free trial that includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn, the award-winning expansion Heavensward, AND the not award winning but still fun Stormblood expansion with no restriction on playtime up until level 70!!!!!!

In all seriousness, if you want an MMO that has good gameplay, a good community, and hours upon hours of a wide variety of content, I highly recommend this game. However, if you are looking for a story that will capture your heart and make you think and feel in ways you haven't before: this game is a must have.

Eastward is a good game -- is it a must play though...I would say not so much.

I'm writing this review right after I have beaten the game. Going for mostly just story progression and not delving to deep into Earthborn I completed the story in about 16 hours. A nice chunk of game for the price.

I'm trying to think of anything only positive to say about the game and the only thing I can say is great is the soundtrack and graphics. The graphics give me strange mother 3 vibes, and the music is delightful to listen to.

Everything else, while not BAD, I have my gripes with.

First, the story. I will say the story is sort of all over the place for me. The progression is inconsistent, I was surprised I just ended up in the last town of the game as soon as I did, and before this while there are some cute and key story beats, a lot of it feels unnecessary in moving the plot forward. Sure some things set up concepts and how the world works, but these concepts are never seen again or are so trivial that it feels like they didn't even need to show it off.

Secondly, the gameplay. To discuss this though let me talk about the weapons. You get a small handful of weapons which are fun to play around with and are used in select puzzle solving situations. This is a cool concept, but a lot of the weapons' puzzle solving capabilities are used when they are introduced, and then never again which is a shame. The weapons are just ok, and without a puzzle that required their use, I would very rarely use any of them besides the basic melee.

"But what about the combat are the weapons good there?". Eh..not really. While these technically are weapons, I found the melee the most effective overall. Managing ammo just made me want to preserve my weapons for key moments which I really didn't have come up, and the weapons didn't feel like they had a big impact in damaging enemies. The time I started breaking out weapons more was near the half-way point of the game because the enemies were just becoming more and more of a nuisance to deal with. Unless you bubble the enemies and then wail on them, later enemies won't be staggered on hit leading to a lot of damage if you're getting up in their face and swinging your melee like crazy. Using the weapons helped add a little distance to make some enemies easier to deal with without losing lots of health in the process.

Now, for any achievement hunters, some of them are rough. After reaching the end of the game I had not found every ingredient after checking pretty much every shop I came across. From my understanding, there's only a few ingredient categories so getting all the recipes shouldn't have been too bad. Reaching the end of the game however I had a small handful of recipes I hadn't discovered yet which was surprising, I figured there were only so many combinations of ingredients but I guess not. As well, if you miss a treasure chest in a dungeon or area. For the most part, once you leave the dungeon or area, if you missed a chest you have no opportunity to get it again. This makes the achievement for getting all the chests pretty rough if you don't know where they all are on the first run through.

My final issue involves a particular character. I won't go into detail about them entirely, but I figured I'd tag it in case anyone wants to go in without expectations.
I am not a fan of Isabel's character or her development...and she becomes a pivotal part of driving the plot forward near the middle of the story. She stays very one note throughout the whole thing, really only showing the trait that she loves Alva. Maybe that's all she needed in this story, but having her be a device to move the plot forward falls flat when I don't particularly care about her.

So this is a lot of negatives, so why am I still recommended this game? While all of these portions when analyzed separately displeased me, I think as a full package the game is... passable. The game is still charming and the story is interesting enough to keep me somewhat engaged, but I was just left...feeling just ok when the game and story was over. I kept going to see what would happen to John and Sam in the end as well as going through the dungeons, and those two things alone gave me...enough enjoyment. The other mechanics I had issue with were still decent enough when brought up, I just think the overall package is nothing to write home about.

This is a neat little gem designed for people looking for a challenge. The game's controls are pretty tight once you get used to them. Garlic (the main character) moves a bit fast, but once you get used to it he feels great to control, especially when you start to incorporate maneuvers using the screw dash. There are also typically a minigame on each floor that changes up the gameplay, and all of these are fun and quirky distractions. The game is well made but doesn't take itself super seriously,

However, the game is not flawless. As people have stated in reviews, this game will frequently ask you if you want to make a screen easier after dying so many times on said screen. Personally, I only had this happen to me twice, but that more so leans into the fact that I am very familiar with difficult platformers. I do agree however that how this is handled could do with some tweaks. Maybe add an assist menu players can adjust difficulty as they see fit, or tackle it some other way. That way players aren't pestered with the consistent pop up every handful of deaths. Also achievements are bugged which Isn't the end of the world...but I really want my achievement for entering the tower :(

Overall I think this game is really solid. If you're up for a challenge, I highly recommend checking this game out.

I'll level with you, this was probably one of the most abysmal game experiences I have had in recent memory. I would give it a funny haha thumbs up for silly reasons, but I had a genuinely bad time playing this. The first couple levels are like "fine, ok this is cool", but the deeper you go the more you just want it to be over. It becomes downright frustrating at times due to the level design. Spikes on a vine that you can't just easily jump over, so you have to like jump around them and hope you don't fall off due to the little control of your trajectory you have in a jump? Guh.

If you're buying this for a silly goof or to just have a laugh at a poorly made game then by all means, pick this game up, but if for some reason you stumble upon this thinking it's a cheap little mario knock-off you can have a little fun with then steer clear.

In other news, I was able to 100% the game in roughly 40 minutes, so it is a short one. By the 10 minute mark though I was regretting the commitment I made to beating this game.

Early Access Review
I usually never buy or play adult only games such as this one, but the art style and gameplay caught my eye so I said "what the heck, everyone should have at least one porn game".

First off, let it be known that the content is lacking -- this is in early access and it does show. However, the the current gameplay loop is rather enjoyable albeit fairly basic which is why I still recommend it. I want to re-iterate that this is in early access so that people don't purchase this and then review it negatively based on a lack of content.

First, let's list off all the positives:
+ The art style is really cute to look at, and all of the portraits and scenes with the girls look really clean. As well, most of the animation is very good looking..though I have a gripe with it I'll touch on later.
+ The soundtrack is very small right now, but from what I've heard I really enjoy all of the music...especially that title screen theme and the theme in the trailer. I'd be lying if I said that was not part of the reason I picked up this game.
+ The voice acting is all really good from what I've heard. The characters each have their own unique voices and accents and makes them all feel distinct rather than all of them ending up sounding similar with small differences.
+ The gameplay is basic right now, but the loop is actually quite enjoyable. There isn't much in terms of strategy at the moment, but it definitely has a LOT of potential to become something great.

Now, some negative things I have come across during my playtime:
- General grammatical issues
- When you pick up a card to play it: If it can be played it WILL be played. There is no way to click and drag a card from your hand and then put it back in your hand, so If a card can be played and you click on it, you have no choice but to play it.
- The eye movements in some of the animations feel strange to look at. I feel like the eyes do not need to be making all the movements they do during some of the animations...I want to assume that a gal won't be bouncing up and down and darting her eyes around the room during a moneyshot. That may be personal preference though.
- The game currently drops you into the thick of things story wise. When you have the option to meet up with the girls, it plays out like you already know them. You learn their different personalities very quickly, but currently there's no formal intro when first meeting the girls. A campaign mode may be added down the line and this will most likely fix this issue, but I figured it would be worth mentioning since it's a little jarring.

Overall I would recommend this game despite the criticisms I have stated. Buying it now is an investment in what this game will become and supporting the devs in their pursuit to make this game better and better is always a plus (porn games need love and money too!). If you are skeptical, I would at least add it to your wishlist, check back in a few months, and see if any new content has caught your eye.

Most adult only games I see are either visual novels or heavily focus on the sex scenes and leave a lot to be desired in the gameplay department, but a deck builder style game that is actually pretty enjoyable is promising. Looking forward to what else this game has to offer in the future :)

*Slaps Spelunky 2*

This bad boy can fit so much content in it and it's still overflowing.

Plus online co-op will be coming down the line...eventually. What's not to love.
