Avowed is absolutely fantastic.

It's the game I've wanted from Obsidian for more than a decade. I loved New Vegas, as so many other people did. I also loved Pillars of Eternity, especially the first one, but I loved it despite how it played. Pillars is an amazingly philosophical game, but its gameplay makes it a very niche recommend.

I remember being excited for The Outer Worlds, hoping it could capture something of what I loved, and I remember being disappointed by what I ended up being.

I was excited for Avowed from its announcement, hoping that even if it wouldn't be everything I wanted, it would at least be fun. It far exceeded my expectations, being far more a sequel to the Pillars games than I ever would have hoped for something not named Pillars of Eternity 3, and finally being the return of the feeling I got from Fallout New Vegas.

It made me think, it made me feel, it made me question my decisions and the logic behind them, and it kept me guessing and doubting my conclusions about what was happening in the world and what was right to do right up until the end.

At time of review, I've only beaten Avowed once, but i'm sure I'll beat it more times in future. An absolute masterpiece, and worth your time if you've ever enjoyed the kind of storytelling and game design Obsidian offers.

Eternights is a fun little game. It takes a lot of ideas from Persona, but it certainly isn't a clone. I was really impressed by how ambitious it was for a small team, and I think they pulled it off.

Very fun game. A solid concept, well executed, and carried through a lot of in-game standing around by good voicing acting and well written characters, as well as a solid collection of things to fidget with. Solid reactivity to doing unusual things or doing things early in most but not all cases, and good puzzle design. If I had to have any complaint, it's that some of UI design seems more tailored for VR than a traditional monitor set up, like opening doors and the warning that you can't leave a room yet, but it's never egregious or non-functional. I'd highly recommend it.

Pros: It's the best way to play YGO online, with a nice interface and animations. The pack mechanics being random is bad like any CCG, but the crafting system means that it's not hard to build one deck. It only really becomes an issue if you want to keep trying new decks frequently.
Cons: It is still Yu-Gi-Oh, and sometimes the ban list is very bad. It's all pretty significantly behind the TCG in releases, let alone the OCG, so you'll see a lot of decks coming a long way off.

Very solid game with some neat gimmicks and good core gameplay that doesn't outstay its welcome or pass by too quickly to satisfy.

The comparisons to Dark Souls are obvious, but there's a few important differences. Firstly, while both go for a sort of post-apocalypse doomed world, the solitude of Dark Souls is never present in Code Vein, with lots of voiced cutscenes with your crew of companions- plus you're almost always exploring with a partner unless you purposefully choose not to. The combat is also less methodical than Dark Souls, and character customization leans towards much prettier people, and doesn't hide them under armour and helmets. Either way though, it's a somewhat challenging but not extremely hard game that usually managed to present hard enough hurdles to make it satisfying to overcome them, and didn't outstay its welcome. A very solid action game.

Superhot is a fun concept that starts off enjoyable, but it's let down by two things: one, the story is INSUFFERABLE, and clearly thinks it's far smarter than it is with an attempt to be "meta" that completely falls flat. Two, later levels increase the speed of things to the point where "time only moves when you do" is just completely false. You're constantly dying or being put into situations where you can't do anything but die while you're not moving and trying to evaluate the situation. Fun for a couple of hours, and then completely nosedives.

PIllars of Eternity 1 is a game that I only recommend to people with caveats. "It's extremely good at what it wants to be", is my usual line. Unfortunately, what it wants to be is an Infinity Engine game, and that's a hard sell for some people. Additionally, the plot can drag early on a little bit. Pillars of Eternity 2, however, I have no issue recommending whole heartedly. Turn based mode feels infinitely less techy than playing Pillars 1 did, and even beyond that, the rebalance of classes and daily resources makes the game feel less annoying in general. The writing has only gotten better, and the world continues to be interesting and full of fun fantasy ideas and an enjoyably extended examination of the morality of souls and gods. If you like RPGs, Pillars of Eternity 2 is an excellent option, without any caveats dragging it down to the more niche space of its predecessor.

Cross Tag is probably my favourite fighting game. It's relatively simple to actually play, with most movelists toned down compared to six button fighters or fighters that have a lot of specials and directional neutrals, but it has a huge depth of systems of combinations that make mastery very evident.

Also Yang's in it and she's fun to play so that pretty much sells it right there honestly.
