A lot of review(-s/-ers) forget that at its core, Assassin's Creed in all installments has always been a game that caters to the greater nerds among us, and I say this with all the appreciation I can muster into a sentence like that. It's a franchise whose greater identity lies in coupling the satisfaction of story, gear and character progression with KNOWLEDGE progression.

I'm not too sure that this game, or a game of this kind really fits into the faster paced world of gamers we've grown into today where most people are looking for the next PVP/PVPVE BR or Extraction Shooter, but I'm more than positive Shadows lives up to the type of thing it's always tried to be: a game of immersion.

Shadows is a Feudal Japan you can LIVE in, explore, and wonder at. It's a beautiful rendition of times long past filled with places real and imagined, stories explored and created, that - in my eyes - lives up to every bit the type of thing Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed team has always endeavored to create.

It's probably a biased take, but so long as I can continue to explore places like Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Feudal Japan, etc. and learn while having fun and taking down shadow organizations hellbent on taking over the world, AC will always earn 10/10's with me.

PS: To fix pantless bug, equip/unequip a special suit if you've gotten far enough in the game to acquire one. Unless - y'know - you WANT your pee-jay showin'

For the longest time I was hooked on this game. Smooth character progression, good character customization(through skills/feats/enhancements/etc.) and all around a fun time playing. I could arguably say I put over 1k hours into this game BEFORE installing it through steam, but had already burned out by the time I did. I'm not going to let that impact my review, however. I played the game solidly for over 5+ years, gained completionist, and did what I love to do: group with zergers or solo difficult quests/raids. I loved it. The downfall came after all the exploits/bugs/etc, and it drove really great players away, but hell for all the fun I had playing it I don't mind giving it a thumbs up for what it was. It's still a great game to pass the time, if you don't mind grinding your gear/experience out (moderately, I know games where the grind is hands down a lot more tedious).
