Modding support makes it much better than Dwarf Fortress. The arguments are that DF have more simulation, but from the PoV of a player all of that simulation looks random, since actually finding out the events to why things happened is close to impossible with Dwarf Fortress. Hell, even the combat log takes the entire screen, meanwhile the log for Rimworld is in the left corner, making it easier to see the game and enjoy the shenanigans in the logs. Just one example to why this is much better.
