Just marry into a big empire constantly and use them as allies.
Then have them win wars for you.
Eventually you will most likely get a claim and with other allies you can conquer the big empires, or have your son marry the queen so when you play ass your son have a kid with the queen and unite the 2 kingdoms/empires.

Best game though. LOVE IT.
