Here's the thing - this game wants you to take your time and just enjoy being in its world. The story and "mystery" that permeates it is circumstantial to that experience.

If you can do that, you'll probably like this a lot; if you approach it like a puzzle or mystery to be solved, you probably won't.

My largest complaints are that the storyboard can be learned and understood entirely without being able to complete the game in its entirety, and that the storyboard also feels capricious in its reveal to you - each beat feels like you're pulling the lever on a slot machine and getting some new story component. It'll make sense eventually, but when it does, you may have already gotten enough of the pieces that it doesn't feel like it's worth the payoff anymore to get the whole picture.

There were exactly two moments I enjoyed in this game: learning the second rule, and the end sequence (not because the game was over but rather because it was truly beautiful).

The game should also go out of its way to teach you about "mark on HUD" as that feature literally saved my sanity once I found it in map mode.

Bungie has been making shooters for a long time, and they know where the sweet spot is in the gameplay. Somehow I've never found it repetitive, even doing the same events over and over again.

Fun concept, but current implementation actively encourages people to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥; if you're not in the front line of runners on a given gauntlet, it's guaranteed you're going to get knocked out by someone either grabbing you on a ledge to block a jump or standing at the end of the gauntlet waiting until you're almost there before eliminating you at the last possible second by running across as you approach. You can't even exit when you realize you don't have a chance because then you forefeit even the basic rewards.

This would be less of a problem if the randomizer put more than the same 2-3 games in the first round or two, so you got to see more of the depth of the game...but if you're not good enough to make it to or past round 3, expect you're not going to get to see anything but Hit Parade and See Saw all day.

Has some interface bugs, like suddenly not being able to see your hand of cards, or not being able to use any of the "online" features of the game on launch/between games, but it's a good looking interface and it significantly speeds up the time needed to play this game. Definitely enjoyable if you like the game!

When they said "It's more of the same as Borderlands 2" they aren't really wrong, but the thing is...Borderlands 2 had a winning formula. If you liked that, this is more of it with a fresh coat of paint, and a few quality of life changes - items have a "score" now so it's much easier to tell when a new gun is an upgrade, and bosses actually have mechanics and aren't just gobs of health and damage that have to be whittled down.

The multiplayer is also better, since loot can now be set to "personalized" so you never have to worry about sniping something that would be an upgrade for your buddy,
