Shrine II is an incredibly fun mod that feels like it's own game. It's an absolute blast to play through, I've personally gone through 4 times, once on the highest difficulty. It's just long enough to not feel like it's overstayed it's welcome but short enough to go through in a single sitting. The visual design is top notch, with awesome and gruesome enemies and weapons. Sound design is also a real strong point. Shrine II is great, play it it's free and it's fun.

Is it cheating to write a review for a game with your name in the credits? Maybe I don't know. What I DO know is that When It Hits the Fan is a fantastic return to top down 90s arcade shooters. Playing this game will make you feel like you're playing a real arcade game, which is supported considering that the game actually does have an arcade port.

The game is fast paced and difficult. It's also very fair, the camera makes sure nothing ever sneaks up on you that you couldn't expect. The replayability is probably the best part of them game. I've played through the game a countless number of times and not once did I ever get bored with the game. The game's branching paths, secrets, extras, and fun to learn level design keep you on your feet even through 10-20 playthroughs. This is very much the game that is fun to learn and master. Achievments are another positive that this game has going for it.

The game sets achievements in a really smart way. While you have some that are grindy like your "kill a brazillan* enemies with the laser cannon" are present. However, most of the achievments are stepping stones to help the player learn and master the game. By giving increasingly difficult goals, players who are hoping to 100% the game are going to improve dramatically because of these set goals.

All in all, When It Hits the Fan is not only a fantastic blast to the past, but it has a leg to stand on its own. I am glad to have been able to beta test for When It Hits the Fan and be involved in the development.
