At the time I am writing this, I have put about 1100 hours into the game. What initially drew me to the game was the amazing and unique aesthetic that makes this game simply beautiful and haunting. Set in a Hell-stricken 1895 Louisiana Bayou, there are countless zombies, armored zombies, hell-hounds, immolators (fire zombies), hives (hornet-zombies), and meatheads (huge zombies with giant leeches) to make your job harder. What do you do? You're a hunter from the Hunter Association tasked with finding, eliminating, and banishing dangerous supernatural monsters, i.e. the bosses of the game. However, the competition is fierce with other hunters vying for the same target - and their associated bounty. The weapons and tools you have available to you are all relatively contemporary to the period; you'll have to make do with trusty revolvers, bolt and lever-action rifles, and other like weaponry. You'll have tools to help you, of course, like an always-helpful bundle of dynamite when stuff really needs to be obliterated.

This game carries an intense, competitive, and punishing PVP and PVE system where every shot could be your last. Guns can instantly kill with a head-shot no matter the size of the caliber up to an effective range that is gun-specific. Of course, you might find other ammunition, such as poison, incendiary, or explosive rounds to be more to your liking. Each hunter has 150 health separated by health bars that can be burned away, lost on a down, or replenished back to full after banishing a target. However, if your hunter dies, he/she dies for good. Don't worry though, you'll still have a stockpile of cash and an armory that stays intact, as well as a recruitment page to ready another to take their place. Make sure you bring the right equipment as sometimes a foggy map may turn your scope into an impediment...

The game has quite a steep learning curve from knowing every angle to peak from among the cracks in the wood in a shed to being able to tell what guns your enemies are carrying just by sound. Playing with a headset is an absolute must! Crytek has done a fantastic job of making such a refined in-game sound engine, but you need to keep your wits about you to really use it to the greatest extent. Don't worry about getting into the swing of things too slow or too fast. There's plenty to do before you feel the need to venture out against other players. The game has a progressive tutorial system as well as trials for you to challenge with rewards for your achievements. The game allows for prestige, but, be warned, it will reset you back to level 1 with 4000 dollars and nothing but your knowledge to accompany you. There's plenty of great community guides, videos, and other sources of information with streamers to guide you along the path of a Hunter. The community is a great one and will always be welcoming to new players. This game has tons of room to grow and improve (the players along with it) and hopefully you find a comfortable place among it all.
