This is a great game with so much wrong with it that I can only recommend it to those already playing it - which is what review scores are for, hence the negative.
So whats wrong with it?
- in-game selling is atrocious, they significantly overvalue in-game currencies so think very very hard before ever buying anything. If you have any willpower issues do not play this game.
- it's a jumble of complexity. They just keep adding complexity to the game, and it takes time to learn which parts of the game are worthwhile. The clash for example is insanely complex and the matching/ progression is horrible.
- touchdrive is awful. Yet more and more evnts are really only for touchdrivers (using auto-drive, basically) because for example they'll effortlessly line up with the rows of tokens every time. Touch-drive defeats the whole point - if you dont want to drive why are you playing a driving game? - yet driving manually has become a huge disadvantage in many of the events. Sometimes I have to switch to touch drive just to complete a section whihc is increeasingly annoying.
But I've grown with the game, and Asphalt 8 before that, so for me I still remember the great game that I learnt initially. I love the parts of this game that I play - some of the events, and the multiplayer. And of course I've already done the grinding now so I have decent cars.
Then theres the issue of how they treat their customers. I had about 1000h in android, including quite a bit of investment and they reset my account for "cheating" because I used android on Chromebook, which they incorrectly flagged as a "cheating emulator" even though it wasnt. They ignored my appeals and stole my money (by resetting my account completely) not to mention my thousand or so hours on that account. So any company that runs things like that does not deserve a thumbs up.
I'm torn between giving the game an "only just" positive or a negative, but on balance when I remember how the company treated me back then, no, its a negative - I wouldnt wish that treatment on anyone. Im invested now, but my advice is that you dont get yourself into that position with any company that wont treat you fairly.
If you must play it (and some of it is definitely worthwhile), just play the fun bits but if you cant ignore their gambling-baits and paid shortcuts to wealth, then stop immediately and play dirt 5 or forza instead.
