It's finally here, in all it's glory, the one and only Antimatter Dimensions: Reality Update
It has been a wild ride !

This review will remain as spoiler free as possible for the new Reality content
Be aware that I was a tester for the Reality Update, do not be surprised by my playtime

What is Antimatter Dimensions ?
Antimatter Dimensions is an minimalist incremental game (idle, clicker, etc..) with an emphasis on large numbers, automation, and unfolding gameplay.

You start with 10 antimatter and a looming "Percentage to infinity" bar, you start buying dimensions, slowly progressing.
You soon get to insane numbers that quickly turns into something like 6.9e42 antimatter
A few achivements here and there, a few setbacks, some fun news in the top bar...
And when the bar fills up... Infinity !
Infinity is only the beginning.
You start over, but stronger. You keep getting stronger and numbers get crazier.
Then game opens up: more tab, more ways to make your number interacts, more ways to experience the game through different paradigms, and automation starts to solidify, more numbers, faster, eternally faster..

But enough explaining, you can see this for yourself !

Antimatter Dimensions is my favorite incremental game as it is very unique and laid the groundwork for "Quadratic Growth" incrementals (thing produce other thing) and the Reality Update is simply amazing with the new quality of life and fresh content.
It has been an honor testing the update with the team and I'm glad everyone can experience this beautiful labor of love.

Have fun on the Reality prestige layer, may the Celestials have mercy on you.

After pouring more than 30h in the game over 3 save slot (with one currently running NG+10), I think i'm ready to review this little gem.

I had my eyes on this game a bit ago, it looked very Dark Souls inspired and I since I also enjoyed Salt And Sanctuary a lot, I thought about getting it. A friend ended up gifting me the game, but at the time I wasn't interested in starting it.

Comes 2021, i decide to boot the game. The main menu music greets me and I'm in awe. It is absolutly beautiful. So i'm gonna start with that:

Soundtrack: For me, most songs, and the main theme, are very memorable. I'm not going to name some them to avoid eventual spoilers, but do know that they achieve to convey a lot of emotions. I have a feeling the OST will become my most listened playlist on Spotify in 2021.

Graphics: I probably did not pay enought attention to screenshots or trailers in the past, cause I got pleasantly surprised at the pixel art style the game is using. It works very well. It might not be to everyone's taste, but some scenary are just beautiful. I don't think I can find something in the game that would make me stop and go "that doesn't look as good as the rest"

Story, Characters (Voice Acting !): I'm not good on judging stories, so, put simply: I got hooked quickly, I liked it a lot. I'm usually here for gameplay but this game often makes me want to re-read dialogues, if not just for some of the voices.
The character you play is named and has its own background, different to what Dark Souls does, for good reasons.
A few quotes sticked to my mind, reinforced by the voice acting once again. Especially one character with this THICK accent that is very cute.

Gameplay: Here we are. First off, the game offers NG+ (up to 10), a Deathless (hardcore) mode, and Heroic Bosses (rematch you can do after defeating a boss). The combat is not perfect, but the weapon feel is good and gets better as you master your favorite one. I started with daggers, which I completly forgot about now since I no longer play with that. I then tried magic which feels unique and fresh, I used that for a while to kill as much Heroic bosses I could. Then I tried the Scythe and it became my favorite weapon, I'm just crunching NG+s with it. Exploration wise the game connects its areas really well, and there are a lot of small secrets to discover, some I probably still haven't found.

Bosses: Most of the boss cast is solid, one of them is sadly forgettable and I completly ignore it in subsequent runs at this point. Boss theme songs are great. Some bosses have the issue of being DPS races, especially in Heroic.

Bugs and issues: It runs on potatoes, I believe this game uses Game Maker as its engine and it does have its FAIR share of issues, its important that I list them:
-Resting at statues and leaving them usually freezes the game for a very short second, this isn't much of an issue as you're not 'in action'
-Sometimes the game freeze consistently (one boss I died a lot against does this everytime) but at least nothing moves. Blocking can do that too, on my bad PC at least.
-The music is very loud at first, and the sound slider is inconsistent for that regard: if you lower it, some music in game will turn completly silent. I spent 30 hours on the game before deciding to lower the sound from windows and putting the sliders back to 100 so that I can hear one of the boss theme. Please do that too
-Steam is in French by default for me, so the game is too, you can change language at any time, but for my case, I wanted to switch to english at some point and doing it in the main menu will just undo it when loading a save. And it will go back to french every time I restart the game.
-Some NG+ related scalings doesn't seem to apply, or weirdly: one of the boss always rewards 500 shards even in NG+10, while another one got me 900,000. I think the final boss is always worth around 15k? A rare selection attacks deals peanut damage for NG+10 too.
-One enemy in the game has the shortest attack animation I've ever seen in my entire life.
-Hitboxes, not too bad except that one boss I referenced earlier about freezes, but yeah, you can't escape occasionnal questionnable hitboxes. You can't. Don't try. Don't.

Overall, Death's Gambit is an awesome game, very short but good replayability, with a lovely soundtrack and cute pixel art style. I heard a DLC was in the works and I can't wait. Have fun with it

There is a lot to talk about this game but I'd rather let anyone try by themselves because this game combines a lot of game genre that I love.
Its very good, grab it if its your kind (Steam will describe better than me), worth it.
If you like local coop, its very enjoyable, tho a bit better if players already knows the game

A good gem

Probably the most hated game in the series
I love it, even with its quirks and flaws
