Pupienus was an Emperor in the year 238 alongside his colleague Balbinus, for about two months. Now it may seem that these two men were, therefore, little more than a brief skid-mark on the underwear of Roman history, but they are interesting because their reign was weird. It was built on a Republican ideal of shared consular power over 250 years after the end of the Republic. But it failed and they were replaced by a 13 year old boy.
