Where do I begin with this game? Easy to pick up and play, hard to master, a "short session" can easily turn into hours with this game.

First of all the soundtrack, this game has easily one of the most easy listening soundtracks. A lot of people I know turn in game music right down as a first thing whenever they play a game, especially with friends. Not so with this game, the background music is just that, it stays subtly in the background, always there but never in the way, combined with small changes between levels to add variety make the soundtrack a really great addition.
In terms of sound effects, the noises the enemies make is distinct, allowing you to recognise threats based on the noise they make, all the playable characters have unique sounds for their abilities, all of which are very satisfying. My only gripe is that the commando could have meatier sounding pistols, but it isn't a deal breaker.

In terms of graphics, this game has easily one of the most eye-pleasing visuals of a game of recent years, no it isn't super duper detailed amazing graphics that require top end hardware to run with any amount of decency, but it is only what it needs to be, and that is a task it performs flawlessly, especially with a recent update to improve the lighting quality. Later on in a session, with lots of enemies and items, it can get very busy visually but it's something the game handles well to it's credit. The UI is clear and defined, and I really love seeing small details like damage numbers flying off enemies and such.

The core gameplay loop is simple, kill enemies for money, open boxes with money for loot to make you more powerful, kill bosses to advance the level, repeat. But it is so addictive, especially when the enemies can get incredibly challenging with further progression. It is a roguelike in a certain sense, with procedural enemy and loot location generation, and semi-random level progression. On easy difficulty you can certainly reach a point where you one-shot everything and it stops being a challenge, but that is at least 3+ hours in for most people, and for a single session on a roguelike that is a typically long time. This then ignores the fact that you have loads more characters and 2 more difficulties to choose from. It helps also that there is multiple viable builds for each character, as well as generic viable builds. You can pick up random items and still do decently!

In terms of bang-for-buck, this game delivers, not only with the base content but also with the frequent updates that the developers are bringing to the game every couple of months. Fun both solo and with friends, this is a game that will keep you going for many hours.

I've nominated it for my 2021 Labour of Love Steam award, the content the devs have added is amazing!
