Early Access Review
Lots of fun. The low poly art style takes a little getting used to, but the gameplay is great. The difficulty scales with your own playstyle (although it needs tweaking a little still IMO) . The puzzles are enjoyable. Effective management is a must, while there no encumbrance, you quickly run out of free inventory slots if you arent careful. Its in early access, so theres still a lot of balancing and tweaking to be done. But over all, this is a solid start, and the Devs are active and listening. Base building is relatively simple and easy to do. Right now, theres about 15 to 20 hours of gameplay, possibly more if you go exploring every inch of the map. But more content is on the way. For the price-tag I think this is a solid buy and has a Lot of potential.

Early Access Review
So right now its Early Access.
.
So far its amazing though. It has those warm fuzzy RimWorld vibes without the mild hatred from the Storyteller.
The success you have will depend on how quickly you get ready or winter, although my peeps seemed to do okay with limited Winter clothing. But they have a cozy wood home to shelter in.
.
SHELVES! These seem to be a puzzle. Some times you seem to be able to stack them close, other times they will refuse and you end up with a large gap between them.
ANIMALS: Omg! Stop eating my food!, but with the amount of animals on the map you wont be hurting for food or leather come the winter.
RANDOM EVENTS: These seem to be timed to your skills, as soon as I had the soldering bench, I started getting equipment malfunctions. The Black Beetles are not much of a threat once you have some Bows and Pointy sticks. But the difficulty goes up once you start getting the larger insects. For that, the Leather comes in handy.
Everything you need to survive seems to be provided, but depending on the Map seed, you may find a long walk is needed to observe things.
From the start options in the Menu, this is just a single level / moon and we can expect to see game modes and options in the future.
Over all, its a fantastic start. If you like management games like RimWorld, ONI or other colony games like that, this is for you.

Yes, it has a few bugs. But a relaunch fixed the ones I had.
I was very surprised at how much fun this was. Initially, I seemed like an rather repetitive potentially Mobile port kind of game. But then it Really kick off after about the 30 minute mark. Yes, some of the funtivities are kinda basic in their mechanics, but still enjoyable. There is a challenge, mostly in juggling the inventory, which in itself is a great mechanic and pushes you in certain directions.
Loving the game so far, and Im only 3 hours in. Cant wait to see where it goes...

A fantastic start.
I have given up on my Soap-box of "un-finished release" I mean, we have AAA companies releasing games unfinished and then patching them days later. So I guess thats where the industry is at these days, why complain?. I remember RF4 being totally trash when it first came out.
.
Anyway.
Like CotW, this is more than just "Fishing". You arent plopped into a tiny map, with 1 job. This is set in a 'Reserve' with side missions, and plenty of places to go fish (some hidden). There is a nice element of 'exploration' to it.

* The scenery and water are pretty amazing considering this is aimed at PC And Console. There have been a lot of comments about the water looking terrible, honestly, I havent seen it myself (they must have ♥♥♥♥ gfx cards, or need to update their drivers). Sure, it doesnt look like Tap water as you see in some other games, but the World reflection that includes the clouds are really nice. Seeing the wind blow across the water (at the same time as the trees are reacting to wind too) is a nice effect, and if you pay attention, it can help with certain aspects of the fishing.
* Seeing the Fish jumping is kinda cool, and watching them breech and go back down is nice too (another behavioral trait that can help with the fishing), they dont just cruise around on the surface in a predictable manor.
* Initial character customization is.... quite limited. I forsee that changing.
* The Vehicle (Jeep) handles really badly, But in a fun way though, unless you speed off a cliff.
* Walking is interesting, I managed to walk down a Cliff. Cut a considerable amount of Travel time though.
* The casting and reeling actions are nice and familiar. The overall mechanics of rod and reel are pretty nice, I can see them being tweaked as the game progresses though.
* The transition between reeling in and the final fish on display is hindered by a fade-to-black effect which is quite irritating.
* No micro-transactions. Once you buy the game you are done spending money on it (until the DLCs).

If you enjoy CotW, youll enjoy this.
If you are on the fence about buying this, Id wait for a few patches and watch the streamers for a while.

Expansive Worlds is a great Dev, they listen to the Audience and certainly push their PC/Console game engine to its limits. CotW was 'ok' when it came out, its fantastic now. I expect to see The Angler, develop and get better over time.

Most of the map is open to the player from the start as with most open world games. How quickly you progress is upto you. Grind the hunters for your Upgrades, or swim idly about the sun baked beaches gobbling up fat unsuspecting humans. This is a fantastic RPG. At first I wasnt sure, but this game grows on you really quickly. The opening scene is everything you want in a shark game, lots of fat humans to terrorize and eat!. Then you get the completionists wet dream of a map, split into sections with multiple challenges and things to collect in an open world scenario. A Fast Travel option is included to bypass some of the more tedious back and forth youll be doing, and a few puzzles here and there to keep brain occupied when you arent gobbling up very surprised kayakers. Keep an ear on the commentary from the camera crew too, there is some wonderful comedy in this one!
I think the price point is a touch high for what it is right now, but I suspect we will be seeing some patches and addons soon enough.
If you have a dark and twisted sense of humor, I Highly Recommend This One!

Buyer Beware:
This game is NOT FINISHED.
Even thought its being sold as a finished product, this game is still in development. You can expect Bugs, crashes, and save-games to become unplayable.
Given the Grindy nature of this game, releasing it in this state is a complet mistake (this is because of contractual obligations with Discovery, NOT the Devs so please dont blame the Devs).
This is a Game, not a Sim....
.
Much like Farm Simulator, Construction Simulator, Giant Machines and a few others, this game is more about the process and the machinery than anything else. Theres is very little skill involved in the game play, much like Farm Sim.. its all about the processes, and this game feels like its geared more towards the kind of equipment one finds in "Giant Machines". There is no prospecting, test holes or geology involved at all... You have set Claims to choose from that are Garunteed to return gold, so theres little challenge there. In fact, the claims have the feel of being worked already, and you are just there picking through the tailings.
.
The graphics are beautiful though, the environments are nicely modeled, lighting and sounds are really nice too. There no life anywhere though... Dont expect to see other people, or animals. Being in the tent alone at night in the Alaskamn wilderness is Perfectly safe.
The current equipment in the game is about as generic as you can get. I mean, it looks nice and handels okay.. But I would like to have seen more.. detail.
.
Like I said before, this game has a Lot of potential... I mean, a Lot of potential.
I wouldnt recoment buying this game right now... Id add it to your watch-list or wish-list and come back to it in a few months.

**Early Access... Always keep that in mind when playing any early access games......
That said.. This is a gem!.
Trying to manage multiple aspects of the airport at once can be a challange, but thankfully you are eased into it with a pretty sluggish start. Which isnt a bad thing. Building is Expensive to say the least, but then... it would be.. this is an airport. Nothing is cheap here..
As it stands right now (8/15/2017), the AI is a little janky, a few Path finding issues but nothing totally game breaking.. and this is **.
The aircraft have a few issues with collision avoidance, I keep waiting for the Fireball on the runway.... (possibly something we might see in the future deliberaly?)
Disasters right now are mostly created by breaking security and causing Aircraft to miss their timeslot in your carefully managed schedule.
Keeping the peeps happy "seems" to be simple. With little effort I have not seen their happiness drop below 90%. **, so this will probably change in future.
Like Prison Architect, this is one of those games that will lull you into a false sence of security, and the moment you overlook a small detail you are staring down almost complete disaster.. in this case, bankruptsy...
Getting the baggage conveyors working and the kitchens working is a bit of a trial and error thing, but once you do it becomes a fire and forget kind of thing.
Dont expect to be managing the ground crew or the taxiway procedures, that isnt part of this game... Although it would be a giggle later on... for those sadists who want even more to micromanage every aspect of the Airport.
Do I recoment this game?.. Totally, but only as long as you understand that its ** and are comfortable dealing with and submitting Bug Reports in a responcible and adult manor....

Outstanding!
This is one of those games with a learning curve. But once you have mastered the basics it gets a lot more interesting.
Oxygen. Water. Power. Temperature. Food. Stress, and exploring all have to be carefully managed. Forget one of those and the whole colony will rapidly let you know. Often by way of Flipping out (Stress related) or just suffocating...
.
Like Many of the popular management games this one will keep you up at night. It really has that "Oh, Ill just do this... Ah, now I can do this... and..." and suddenly its 4am and you have to go to work in 2 hours.
A word of warning.... It is beta and there are many bugs to be found. Iv not experienced anything "game breaking" myself. But dont be surprized if you find one or two.
The artistic style ballances really well with the perril your little duplicates will face, both at their hands.... and yours!.
The maps are randomly generated and the duplicates are somewhat random in their skills and abilities. So replayability isnt really an issue. Plus, if you fail one colony, the next will be totally different, and you get to fail in a whole new way!
(please check the date for this review, as this game is still in Development and these opinions could be out of date with the current build)

As it stands, I would not recomend this game.
Gotta say, Im a little confused (actually, im not.. cash cow springs to mind).... The game is still in EA, as far as I know.. theres no offical solid Release date.. Yet, we are seeing Expansion packs.. Which you have to pay for...
Dont buy them.. Its not worth the money at the moment. This is still in Early Access!!
The core game is all you need with an Early Access title.. Come on, Beta.. How can you spend time on expansions when your core game is still in beta?. Shouldnt you be fixing the Plethora of bugs and producing at least a final release before embarking on Expansions that you ask people to pay for...
The Devs are clearly not commited to fixing the core game, but making money from expansions for an unfinished game...
Which is a shame... Because at its heart, this game has a Lot of potential... I mean a Lot...
Spend a few hours in Single Player and youll see what I mean. You can easily waste Hours building a base, taming a dino, and developing your toon.. The visual eye candy is wonderful. The model work is great, some of the animation is a little janky but I think that can be said for most games today... Explore the island, check out the biomes.. But after a few hours of game play the constant Bugs get really annoying... and these are Basic Bugs that have been around since this went into Public Beta... In June... 2015. Thats almost 2 years ago...
Maybe when the Devs pull their finger out and actually start working on the Core game and stop poncing about with paid for expansions to milk their fan base this game will be Worth the asking price... But as a Beta... Based on the Devs attitude.. I wouldnt recomend this.
