I hate to say this, Sega, but you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, big time.

NGS is a technical and visual upgrade to PSO2. In many ways, this game is better than PSO2 - however, PSO2 worked because of an overabundance of content and small, unobtrusive, largely socially focused hub. Part of the issue - in my opinion - is that they did not commit to a direction, but weakly reached in many directions. The Combat is easier and fancier, but with less options. The world is bigger and more beautiful, but lacking in any kind of meaningful content, and most importantly of all, the Fashion aspect is as egregious as it ever was. - admittedly, the final bit is owing to the utter destruction of the original market, and the fact that the global ships always had a worse economical basis than the JP servers, owing to a larger stock due to more customers (and the fact that JP had more things in the FUN scratch, and more things in the regular scratches, too.)

The character creation and customization is amazingly good, As is the combat. The problem is, it's always the same combat.

In PSO2, combat felt weighty. moving around was slow in comparison - you used abilities to move meaningfully most of the time, and combat was alot more rigid and reflexive. In NGS, you have a dedicated dash button and can climb even the harshest mountains with ease - and these would not be problems were it not for the fact that it seems like they did not plan for this at all in map design.

That is what I mean when I say they did not commit to a direction. None of the systems compliment each other. Movement is fast, but as a result, anything else that causes the character to move feels slow. Why would I use a hoverboard if my dash is easier to control, to jump with, and I can more easily attack out of it? why would I use a movement skill if my dash is faster? why would I attack normally, when the dash attack deals more damage (this one's more situational, really, but I feel like it's still a valid point)
The above, mixed with... a horrifically disappointing stream of content. (it took them a *year* to release 10 minutes worth of gameplay, not counting time wasting, soul-sucking grinding, and another year to release a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ festival.) and the game is, understandably, dying in player count - or at least, it feels that way to me.

So, I can't recommend this game. Because while I have a soft spot for PSO2 base game, with the release of NGS, they completely abandoned it, and no newcoming hotfixes that try to pump the dead heart of this game series is going to resuscitate it unless they release an altogether new game - and no, not another attempt at NGS. To get people who were fans and are now disgruntled interested again - to get ME interested again. they'd have to make a free MMO that's generous about it's items and content, like the Japan-server PSO2 was, and is supported handily, like said game was back in it's day.

Goodnight, PSO, May they not desecrate your corpse for long - for it is too late for them to not have done it at all.

No Man's Sky is more than what it promised to be when ti came out - and though there are a few things I would complain about, I think it's more than worth the cost.
It's a really calming game interspersed with little moments of both brevity and there's always a feeling like there's more to see - though sadly, not really with the planets.

What this game really needs now is more 'events' but as applied to the planet surface. currently I feel there's more to experience while flying around than on the planet surface (except for the base building, which is really nice. Sort of Subnautica-esque, for sure, but back when we had the terraformer - which, wouldn't you know it, is a tool that is used to it's maximum effect here)

The other thing the game could use is a bit more depth - and I mean that geographically. planet surfaces are, sadly, *really* shallow so far. maybe the ocean planets go deeper in, but I've never felt like I could make a cave system if I really wanted to - not enough space for it.

Otherwise, great game - never expected it to be. Congratulations, Hello Games, you're an inspiration to all who start poor and end great.

I got in my pod, and flew to the ship - a common hijack mission, no mistake. Clearing the ship was easy enough, easy mooks without much gear.
Then came the armada, and blew away my new ship. I got in the pilot, and pressed on the autopilot, to try to salvage my dying ship. Slowly, four thrusters went down to 3
2 and I was half way to the port
1..

It was a bright, system, full of stars and battleships. My character was on their dying mission, their death timer down to 2 seconds.
And that was when a missile hit the pilot block, 5 nanometres from the port.

Best game, 10/10

never knew I needed a game that's a mixture of Tribes Ascend and Shadow of the Colossus until I played this.
Heavily recommend, though be aware some of the settings can cause nausea (I recommend 90* snapping turning) and some of the controls feel like they should be set to something else

Absolutely do not support Chucklefish. Having learnt of their abuse of devs, I am disgusted and somewhat dissilusioned by this company, especially having been there for most of the development timeline and watching as new features were revealed and taken. If the reduction of all the interesting things that were in the game before release was the grenade, learning that they abused other devs for free labour was the hand that pulled the pin.
From a learning Game Dev doing a Bachelor of Game Design/Development, a sincere ♥♥♥♥ you, to Chucklefish.
