Bad, rushed and short story with many plotholes.

Fun and enjoyable strategy xcom-like game with a colorful cast of mercs and NPCs.
Interesting characters, all based on stereotypes, but that's part of the intended parody of old action flicks, I'd say.

People whine about "being forced to go all stealth sniper" while I had fun with a healthy mix of normal gun fighting, demolitionist blowing stuff (and people) up, mortars, flanking units, one sniper who mostly started the battles after everyone was in position.
You can approach most battles in your preferred way, unless the situation forces you to adapt. Don't charge into a stationary MG, don't try to fight crocs with your fists, don't bunch up if there are rocket slingers or mortar units etc.

MD even turned into one of my more experienced marksman and always had a good eye on possible flanking spots, from which an enemy might try to approach from.

People who rate this game badly, because they feel like it's not the perfect successor to JA2/1 are annoying.
They didn't even attempt to give the game a fair chance, instead they rated it bad based on a grudge.

It does get stale after a couple of missions

Meng Huo and the Nanman are a welcome addition to the game, the colourful tribes really change the plain looking battles up. There are elephants, tigers, blow pipe units utilizing poison and units using giant torches like maces. Fire overall got a lot more important, since it's basically the achilles heel of most of the tankier nanman units.

My personal gameplay experience was fairly bug free, had like one crash but I'd chalk that up to normal performance issues. Games just crash sometimes, y'all. All my nanman generals always had their weapons equiped but I thing that issue/bug is related to online multiplayer? Sound like desync issues imo.

tl;dr
It's fun as heck and the issues are to-be-expected bugs, that will be fixed in the next couple of weeks

The game is just far too easy and the "True Vault Hunter Mode" is only available once you complete the story. It doesn't matter, right? Just Breeze through the game once on "Normal" (Easy) or "Easier" (play cookie clicker, damn) and enjoy the game once you've unlocked the TVHM~
Well, you could do that but don't expect to change your character.
The superior (aka more fun) difficulty is character bound.
Why?

Seems a bit shady, might be just a dumb design decision.
A major flaw in my handbook.
