Honestly, This game cam be summed up pretty quickly. Did you like Subnautica? Yes? Awesome.

This game isn't Subnautica. The previous entry everything enemy and hazard had a counter. You could kill the Reapers. You could avoid the warpers. Nothing was a 1-hit kill. This game has unfair enemies, Leviathans that are too fast, practically invisible, or something that if you're caught swimming its literally a 1-shot kill. Gulp and you're gone.

There are smaller areas where you can't get your vehicles through. Speaking of the vehicles, they aren't anywhere near as maneuverable or as cool as the seamoth or the cyclops. The Seatruck is a joke. Well, its not because jokes are funny where the seatruck is just awkward and uninteresting.

The one saving grace is the writing and the story. I loved the interactions between the characters and how the story ended. However, it was a slog to get through.

This game isn't worthy of Subnautica. It's subpar: below interest.

This is a mixed review at best. Let's break it down.

Mechanics: (A+
)This game has a really unique card system that is both simple to understand and very complex. There are infinite number of ways to build decks and the way it all plays together is very fun. I haven't enjoyed a card game so much in a very long time.

Story: (A+) Okay, so there are two plot lines. I won't spoil them but they exist. There is the plot line than sets up the lore of the in game world and introduces you to characters and the mechanics of the game and the "other" one. The main (in my opinion) plot is very whimsical and fun. It's dark yet intriguing while having a lot of charm. All 3 chapters including most of the ending are super well crafted with a nice wrap up.

Subplot: (F). Any part of the story where your character has a name is the sub plot. I hated it. It breaks immersion, as it is designed to, and i think it takes away from the really solid game that was made. It feels forced and poorly executed. It also makes very little sense and in my opinion was more annoying to deal with than anything.

All in all, this game was excellent (if you ignore the subplot.) I prefer not even acknowledge it's existence as lore and stick to the main. Doing that, I had a lot of fun. In the end, i decided thumbs up this because of how good MOST of the game was. Still, I really absolutely hated the subplot. . .

Listen, This game is wonderful. Honestly, go listen to the soundtrack first. I suggest "A Long Fall" There is a rock version from the FFXIV Rock band The Primals. Yeah. Two of our main Dev team members made a rock band. Okay, secondly, this story is very good. Not many cliche moments unless they fit. It's intricate and very good. The play style is pretty simple for beginners and the end game content has varied levels. You can go casual or you can sweat in savage. It's versatile and very welcoming to new people. Honestly, I think we have the best community out of all the MMOs I've played. I could gush but i mean come on. 25,100+ hours speaks for itself.

So this game is a complex situation. I'll go over pros and cons.

The game is excellent as far as concept. The characters/survivors/killers are all well thought out and have unique abilities and pros and cons of their own. The balancing is decently fair in the sense that there are under powered killers but not really any that are so overpowered the game is busted. There are unique things about this game that i've not seen else where and that's probably why it's doing so well. The in game currency isn't exactly easy to get at first but it isn't impossible either. I'm assuming as the game progresses it gets easier. The game is fun when people are participating and not being toxic.

The previously mentioned toxicity is one of the bigger problems in the game. People are jerks. If you're coming from overwatch, league of legends, Rainbow6 siege, you'll be used to it. However, unlike those games, there is no innate voice chat. (thank the gods). The game's matchmaking is broken. With a rank starting at 20 and going to 1, you'd figure you might have a 1-2 level spread in either direction. Occasionally a 3 level if there aren't many people playing. However, i've experienced a 15-16 level spread, making the match unwinnable as well as horribly unfun. They appear to be talking about dedicated servers soon(?) so that'll be good. My biggest issue with the game is the currency you get from leveling up is the currency you use to purchase things from the shop. it takes a HUGE time investment to even get a small item from the shop and even then the currency is better used to get perks from the shrine. It almost requires you to purchase the DLC because as we know, "Time is money, friend."

Pros:
*Game is fun most of the time
*interesting characters to pick from
*no one character seems to be overtly better than another.

Cons:
*Toxic community
*Occasionally unfair matchmaking.
*50% of characters are paid dlc or very large amounts of special "level up" currency.
