An acquaintance of mine recommended this game to me a few years ago. At the time I was only mildly interested so I installed the game, probably meddled around with it a bit and then forgot all about it.
A little more than a year ago I rediscovered this game after I purchased a decent gamepad. The game controls suddenly made sense to me and that's when I really started playing. The game had seen quite a few updates in the mean time, making it a great experience and I've been fond of it ever since.

This game puts you in the cockpits of your steadily expanding fleet of ships, lets you vaporize (alien) ships of varying sizes and layouts and looks amazing in the process as well. There are several ways to go at it: you can team up with other players in Co-op, you can test your ship builds and skills against other players in PvP or you can scavenge vast locations by yourself in Open Space. Throw in a little Tournament or Conquest from time to time and you've got action!

A lot of reviews seem to state that this is a P2W game. This is something I don't dare to subscribe to, as to me there are plenty of ways and opportunities to make decent progress without a (hefty) pricetag.
I recently put a little amount of money in the game, although I did so not because I needed to or otherwise felt pressed to but because I thought it was worth it (Yay for discounts!). I haven't been disappointed yet.

TL;DR: Fast action, great graphics, lots of ships, very well possible to play without paying for it. Give it a try!
