tldr; sucked on launch, gearbox listened then the dlc got better

This DLC started out as a poor excuse for downloadable content from gearbox after their purchase of Risk of Rain 2, and it was met with much backlash from the community of the game, most people thought that that would be that & the DLC would just suck.

Then they announced the reworks.

As it would turn out, Risk of Rain 2 wouldn't be another game for gearbox to sit on and do nothing with after doing a thing or 2 with it. Gear box released 3 rework updates, item & new elite type reworks, a rework for the new potential final boss and reworks for the abilities of the characters, each with their own update in the order shown here each having major improvements towards what they were intended to fix.
