I'm usually SUPER late to online trendy games (still haven't played Marvel Rivals, for example). I'm also a dunce when it comes to poker and casino games in general (anything besides poker and blackjack is honestly skinner box garbage that elicits zero dopamine out of me). When people tell you this game is addictive, THEY MEAN IT! What went from a "finally I'll try this out" session turned into the most engaged I've been on the computer in ages. The best way to describe Balatro is that it's like a game that'd be bundled with Windows (i.e. Minesweeper, Ski Free, Purble Place) or a peak era PopCap game (i.e. Zuma, Bejeweled, PvZ). Super simple, super addictive, can easily see someone playing on a stinky little office computer. Casual enough for your grandma to get into, addictive and quirky enough for hardcore capital G gamers to adore. Very much worth a purchase.

Spiral Knights is a bit grindy and certainly isn't the most populated online game you can play (understatement). But it has enough single-player hack-n-slash fun to make it worthwhile nearly 14 years after release.

It's basically the PopCap version of GameHouse's Super Collapse. The addition of the money bags to end levels aims the player towards smarter puzzle-solving rather than mindless clicking, and the speed at which the balls appear is better paced than GameHouse's more famous offering. It's worth it's time for 5 bucks.

Chainz 2 is one of many match-3 puzzlers released during the causal gaming gold rush of the early-to-mid 2000's. This one differs quite a bit from competitors such as Bejeweled in terms of it's difficulty. You have to be a lot more strategic with your matches in this game compared to others, all the while having a higher luck ceiling. It's a good game to stretch your brain with, and it goes well with ambient Aphex Twin music. I'd recommend getting this on sale tho. $10 is a bit too much for a game like this in 2024.
