I think this is the first time that I'm going to change my verdict from recommended to not recommended.

I had big hopes for this one. I love XCOM, and the mix of XCOM and Warhammer 40k sounded really good. Having watched the preview gameplay and reviews, I decided to preorder Chaos Gate Daemonhunters. It was a bad decision.

First of all, preorder cost me around 40 euro since I chose the version with the DLC - thought that it would give me some story, customizable items, anything? Nah, you get a character with some items. Paying 30% of the price just to get a character is very bad market practice.

Next is the gameplay itself. This game is a literal copy of XCOM 2 in terms of research, building, soldier loadouts and abilities. And I don't mind it. What I mind however is the terrible gameplay on the battle map. I liked the idea of going through systems and purifying the plague nests, but battles are another thing.

Bloom meter or whatever it is called is such a bad mechanic. It gives your enemies buffs or gives you debuffs, and that would be fine, except it fills up quickly... VERY quickly. Around turn 5/6 the bar is filled and by this time you are probably fighting two groups because it is impossible to isolate the groups - spawns are designed in a way to force you to fight two groups at once because the detection range of your marines is big.

At this point NORMAL difficulty turns into LEGENDARY. You essentially end up fighting around 10-20 enemies with 4 space marines, whereas half of your enemies are pox minions that do nothing except waste your AP points. Even if you do win the battle, it probably cost your soldiers their health, and because of that, your campaign is ruined.

That is because the wound recovery time is absurdly long. Your soldier walked through a small bonfire? Unlucky, he needs 50 days to recover despite the fact that his body was made to withstand literal gunshots. This forces you to use less-experienced soldiers, but as the game goes on, the difficulty is higher and the enemies get tougher. In my last mission I was forced to use one healthy soldier with 16 health and 3 wounded soldiers with 6 hp each. Obviously I lost. You barely get any soldiers, if you do it is after you win a battle and these happen every 20-30 days or so.

I'm not even going to mention the twitch drops scandal because I'm too tired for this.

Overall, I'm just frustrated. I really like the idea behind the game, but mechanics are just so so bad and frustrating and because of that there is no fun. I have faith in the devs of this game, so I'm hoping that the game will get patched and receive mod support and hopefully, in few months it will be playable and enjoyable.
