Do you like B-movies? Well this game only has wasps, sorry.

Overwhelming odds, a wide range of weapons, genuinely different classes, giant bugs and aliens. This game has it all. Whilst it can be a little rough around the edges, I don't think I've ever played anything quite like it. I have only played it solo, and it was well worth it for that, so I can only imagine how much more fun it would be to play with friends. Despite the cheesiness of the story, it can get quite scary when a horde of ants comes bearing down on you.

If you're not already tempted, then how many games have their own catchy theme tune?

Subnautica was already a beautiful and weird looking game when I first played it during early access, but now with the story complete there's a real purpose to your building and exploring. Something I personally miss in other building and crafting games when you are just left to your own devices. There are lots of little secrets to find hidden away in caves or out of the way places, and each area takes on a different feel. The selection of vehicles feels just right, working up gives you a feeling of progression and each one has a different purpose. The Cyclops (the submarine) has a real feeling of size when you pilot it, not just another vehicle but a mobile mini-base itself.

No sea life was harmed in the writing of this review.

If you have played the first Creeper World game then you know more or less what to expect in this refined and polished sequel.

I always sort of liked the idea of tower defence games but could never really get into them. Creeper World is very much the exception, which takes the fundamental idea and runs with it, right off a cliff and on into the sunset. With a few simple turrets you must hold back the oncoming tide long enough to build up your forces and push back.

The story mode was fun and there are a ridiculous number of extra maps to play. If you enjoy it and fancy something similar, I also enjoyed Creeper World 2 which takes the basic idea and changes the axis so you are fighting up, or down, or even both instead.

Max looked around. How had he arrived at this place? He didn't know. He'd never imagined such a place could exist. All about him were chattering voices, clamouring to have their opinion heard. "This is great. Highly recommended", "How anyone could find enjoyment in this I will never know", "Double Like, Two thumbs up!"...

None of the voices were really saying anything, and often the remarks didn't justify the rating. Max was feeling a strange urge build up inside himself, an urge to to voice his own opinion on these opinions. "Awful, just awful.", "ajskldjfalskdjf", "11/10 Would arrest again."... The voices were building now, building in intensity, volume and number. He looked and his hand was reaching forward, of its own accord. Shaking as he strained to bring it under control. It was reaching for one of the opinions. It's not actually a helpful review, he told himself. You're not supposed to click the Yes button. It is what the Funny button is there for. He felt his finger reaching down, he strained harder, it was no good. His finger pressed the button.

Max shot bolt upright in fright. His sweat soaked vest, grey and grimey, was almost the same colour as the sheets in this dank motel. It had all been a dream. His hand wiped the sweat from his brow, tomorrow his investigation would continue and this dream would fade from memory. He grabbed the bottle of painkillers from the bed-side table. Next to it he noticed a white square. He tried to focus his bleary eyes on what is said. "How would you rate your stay"...

The above would not be out of place in the world of Max Payne, if it weren't for the poor writing that is. Madness descends as Max is caught up in an undercover investigation gone bad. It has certainly aged from way back when I first played the demo, but I only bought and completed the game a few years ago and still very much enjoyed it. No one has bettered the cinematic bullet-time since (if you discount the sequel). It won't be for everyone, but if it's not you could always just watch the TVs...
