When I first tried to play Dark Souls in 2021 I gave up once I reached Firelink. Now in 2023 I have finally beaten the game. At the time of writing this review I have 37 of 41 achievements. This is the best game I have played in years with a great story that it doesn't just drop in your lap. This game makes you earn everything you get. I may have a new contender for my #1 favorite game.

Classic vampire aesthetic for survival/crafting game. This game has given me tons of enjoyment and excitement. Playing feels more like an adventure than a struggle to stay alive. On sale or not if you like survival/crafting+vampires then this is the one for you.

Totally worth every second. Has the feel of Divinity for controls and combat. Great story with choice consequences all wrapped up in the flavor of D & D.

Post-release Review

Zero micro-transactions
Zero "pay us more money for a full game bs"
Zero subscriptions
Actually listening to your players to make a better game
Dropping a game that beats every AAA title
This is how a game should be made and released. This needs to be to new standard for every game from now on. $60-$70 (gotta count that tax $$$) is a good price for a fully completed game that isn't going to ask for more money to unlock content.

Awesome story that can surprise you when you least expect it. A challenging "Dark Souls" (you will die a LOT) combat with fully custom classes. An innovative crafting system that keeps you alive and makes you money. A massive open world full of dungeons, ruins, traps, enemies and a few friends. What's not to love? At full price or on sale it is worth every penny.

Gifted by Yemaj. Thanks for this great game!

This has been a blast to play. Unforgiving from the get go you have to fight your way just to survive. You can customize so much and build insane creations. Only wish there was a fast travel system.

This is what RPG fans have been waiting for since Diablo. This game has never left me disapointed especially when you turn on the ridiculously hard AI. (I forget what it's called right now.) The level for custom character builds is endless. I really don't have anything bad to say about this game. If you can pick it up on sale cool, if not it is still worth every penny.

This is the best game for it's genre. The world is very challenging in terms of survival and exploring. The crafting and building is deep and simple to use. Great graphics, if your PC can handle it. It is processor heavy so keep that in mind. The multi-player is a blast; could use a way to trade besides puting things in boxes/dropping them. New content comes out regularly so it stays fresh in terms of there's always something new to find/create. The leveling system they have in place is good and allows for some interesting character builds. If this game is on sale, buy it! If this game is not on sale, buy it anyway it is worth every cent.

When Portal came out it was the best thing since...well ever. With it's dark humor, and chalenging puzzles it needed nothing more. The story isn't to deep that you get overloaded with usless back story. The game play was so inovative that it created an entire sub culture. This game will actually increase your deductive reasoning and problem solving skills. You can rest easy and let your children play this game knowing they will be "smarter" having played this game.

Alright, after playing in the alpha, beta, and now the finished product I can say this is by far one of the funnest games I've played in a long time. The story (I'm only in chapter two) is not half bad for the style of game that For Honor is. I see the story as there to help you learn to play the different heros and give you a nice little collection of items and steel to start playing the multiplayer. It has enough there to make it feel like a short storyand doesn't feel bogged down with an array of detail and cut scenes that can actually make a game worse (the Final Fantasy series after Final Fantasy IX is a great example of detailed story ruining gameplay).
The multiplayer isn't nearly as bad as those who don't like it say. For Honor has a unique battle system that actually requires skill to be good at. If you aren't paying attention to where you need to block, you will die; doesn't matter who you are. You have to time when you want to start your combo and if you miss, you have to be smart enough to quit swinging your weapon so that you don't loose all your stamina. I prefer the assassin style hero because I can't block for ♥♥♥♥, but I know I can dodge; not getting hit and not dying are key to winning a match reguardless of game mode, hero or skill level. I've beaten players who had better gear, higher levels, etc. Just by having better timing and blocking/dodging than the other player.
After seeing what the delux, gold and season pass offer it boils down to wether you want to pay to unlock everything immediately or you can just buy the base game and unlock everything the old fassioned way (which is how games are meant to be played). Not paying the extra money, the only thing you won't get is a few skins. Sure you get new heros a week earlier than everyone else for your money but in a week everyone will have it and they didn't pay for it. If you want this game, don't waste your money on the extras it's not worth it in my opinion. Maybe an expansion with new maps would be worth paying for but as of now what is offered is not worth the $40+.
All in all I think this is a great multiplayer game, the story mode is more of an extended tutorial that takes you through each of the basic classes for each fraction.
