why rimworld good? rimworld good because rimworld good. you want reason, you buy and find out. trust. much good. so wow.

Edit: its been 4 years since I wrote this review. I decided it was time to say "why rimworld good".

#1 is the replay-ability. I have nearly 1400 hours in this wonderful game at this point, and I haven't done everything you can. The way you play is entirely up to you, in way that I haven't seen in any other game. Fallout New Vegas is the closest to this level of freedom, but even Fallout won't make you feel like your decisions matter as much as Rimworld will.

#2 is the mod-ability. This game's mod support is legendary, an example to follow for all games, indie or AAA. You like having uber-cyborg colonists? go download a mod that expands the prosthesis in the game. You like the psycast magic system but don't like how difficult it is to get the exact psycast you want? Download a mod that lets you choose which one you get with each level, and even adds skill trees for specializing the kind of psycaster you want! Hate the RNG-ness of the combat system? There's a mod that totally overhauls it with realistic gun stats.

#3 is the dev's love shining through in every aspect of the game. This game is fully procedural, however because of the sheer beauty of its game design choices you WILL care deeply about the colonists you manage. Losing one of your original colonists will feel like losing a friend. Losing a fresh recruit feels like missing a connection, thinking of what could have been. You will feel rage at the people who raid you, especially if you're a peace loving colony. The game is very easy to immerse yourself in, even with the emotionally disconnected view that you see the game from.

#4 is an extension of 3. This game is in active development. Its a finished game as it is, however the developer continues to supply free updates and releases DLC that may seem expensive for an indie game, until you realize that each DLC changes the game COMPLETELY to make it feel fresh all over again. Every time I feel burnout on Rimworld, I just wait til the next DLC, and playing the game with a new DLC feels like playing the game for the first time again. I've never had that with any other game.

The summary is, rimworld good because rimworld good. review TLDR? go buy game. you see rimworld good. big trust. much wow
