Darkest Dungeon is already an incredible game. But this DLC cranks it up to 11 on all fronts.

Adding a full on campaign meant to be seamlessly integrated with and played alongside with the main campaign, Crimson Court shakes things up and increases the difficulty. A new hero class, the Flagellant, has surpassed the Jester as my favorite hero. An incredibly strong frontline damage soaker, his martyr playstyle is something no other class in the game can emulate. The new disease, the Crimson Curse, is DD's take on the classic case of vampirism; and if left unchecked it can spiral out of control easily. But sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks, with afflicted heroes taking advantage of their bloodlust's damage bonus in battle. Not spoiling anything, but even though it seems like a blessing, it really is a curse.

The new areas within the Courtyard are some of the coolest in the game, and the new enemies are far from just reskins. Their art is incredible and they morph into some truly horrifying monsters later on. The format of the new missions are something really cool and I hope Red Hook builds upon them in future updates, because this actually feels like a long, drawn out campaign.

If you like DD, you're going to like Crimson Court. Plain and simple.

As someone who loves the capacity of games to tell a story, giving this one a 9.5/10. Each character's tale is told in a unique and beautiful way, and each tie back into the main story arc very well. The gameplay is fluid and the level design is top-notch. Soundtrack fits the tone of the story and the themes of which are handled elegantly, which in a game concerned with death, it's a breath of fresh air in the industry today.

The only gripe I had was with a bug in the last story of the game that blocked me from proceeding, but a couple restarts and careful movement allowed me to get past it.

If you get any enjoyment out of a games' story, pick this one up.

I really, really want to like this game. The combat is brilliant, the classes are varied, the environments are gorgeous and the game is optimized extremely well.

However, I cannot recommend it until Ubisoft fixes their connectivity and matchmaking issues. Out of my 5 games played in the last hour, managed to finish 1 without being dc'ed because Unisoft doesn't want to have dedicated servers. Also the matchmaker loves to put you into a game then say "lol jk it's full." Not to mention the horrid party system that blocks players from joining and only seems to be fixed for a while after remaking the party entirely. Oh, and did I mention if someone ragequits (which happens a lot cause this game has salt up to it's eyes,) they get replaced with a full health bot? And the AI kicks serious ass. Most bots I've seen are better than players.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ubisoft. You've got a gem here. Don't mess it up with stupid issues like this.

EDIT: So it's been a few months since I reviewed this game. And it's improved. The party system is fixed, the connection issues are largely gone, and when someone leaves it no longer replaces them with a bot. Not to mention the game has recieved periodic updates, featuring new heroes, events, maps, and armor pieces. You did it Ubi.

This game.....is not a happy game. You're faced with choices, choices where the line between right and wrong are blurred. It's not just some shooter. It's a look into what war is really like. What sacrifice is, and the toll it takes on a human being, both mentally and physically.

You're not the hero in this game, never were. You're just a soldier trying to do what he thinks is right.

I'm probably not going to play this game again. But the experience? Worth it. 10/10.

Darkest Dungeon is a game I feel is similar to Dark Souls. An unforgiving, punishing gothic horror rpg. The difference here lies in the stress mechanic. Whereas the undead in Dark Souls can get up and keep going time after time, the heroes in DD are far more subject to the effects of stress on the mind. This simple system cam either mean victory or failure, and it sets DD apart from the rest.

The art style is gorgeous. as well as the voices and sound. The narrator of "The Ancestor" is played by Wayne June, of Lovecraftian audiobook fame. It's a perfect fit, especially as you descend deeper into madness later in the game.

The only gripe I have is there is only 4 dungeon areas apart from the DD itself, and you will never enter the DD (if you're smart) until after you have a solid roster of geared and leveled heroes. Differing objectives and missions help to alleviate this problem, however.

The game is also RNG heavy, but can be countered somewhat through smart play, (eg good trinket choices and quirks.) But the Darkest Dungon is a fickle mistress, and even with those locked down RNGesus can say "♥♥♥♥ this hero for no reason in particular." It's an uphill battle, one I thoroughly enjoy.

All in all, a very solid game, and if you enjoy punishment for missteps and victory for playing smart. pick up DD.

A beautiful homage to old school doom with a fresh coat of paint and some wonderful new mechanics. 10/10

10/10, about as emotional as the first, even more so with some nostalgia to boot. The ending is enjoyable, if somewhat bittersweet. Can't wait for season 3.

I can already tell this game is going to be amazing. And I've only finished episode 1. With an ending worthy of game of thrones, I have complete faith in Telltale's storytelling.

This game is absolutely insane. The atmosphere is spooky, score fits it extremely well, monsters are terrifying and the story is gripping. I defintely put it on par with Amnesia and Condemned, and it earns a spot on my all time scariest games list.
