This game is basically Dark Souls meets Dead Space, for better or for worse.

Hellpoint has quite a few good ideas going for it. There's an interesting clock-based mechanic regarding how the enemies spawn, and a neat mechanic regarding temperature from fire or ice attacks. There's an actual jump button unlike most Souls games, which makes platforming a bit less painful. The process of improving your weapons is fairly novel, but end results may vary depending on the weapon. The best compliment I can give by far is that this game handles co-op so much better than an actual Dark Souls.

It's not perfect, though. Direction for where to go or how to even use some gameplay mechanics are poorly explained, assuming they're explained at all. The final boss regardless of route is ridiculously frustrating, whereas by contrast most other bosses are a bit too easy or bland (with some notable and impressive exceptions). The game's biggest problem is it's glitches. I've done 2 playthroughs so far and both of them have been riddled with bugs. Some were purely cosmetic, some actually had a big effect on gameplay, and a couple required me to close and re-launch the game entirely.

If you have a souls-like itch that needs scratching, this'll get the job done. I highly recommend playing it with a friend. Approach it with an open mind and try to laugh off the jank and lack of polish in places.

While there are some things that are downgrades to the '98 version, such as the mishandling of the A/B scenarios or how some of the side characters are developed, this is still one of my favorite video games of all time. There's an unforgettable experience for a first playthrough, and the game actually encourages you to learn how to speedrun it in the form of unlockable weapons, which gives it some replay value.

The game itself is extremely high quality; the presentation is fantastic and the gameplay feels fun. I particularly love pretty much any dialogue that comes out of Jill's mouth. However, it's extremely short. A playthrough is about as short as, if not shorter than, a single scenario from the RE2 remake. My first playthrough was maybe 5 hours. Once you have a general idea of where things are, you can beat it in maybe an hour and a half even without being a pro speedrunner.

I love the game, but unless you're particularly interested in RE REsistance, or you're a completionist/speedrunner who doesn't mind replaying the same game over and over to get your moneys worth, I'd suggest waiting until it goes on sale.

This game is one of the more interesting Visual Novels out there. I can't in good conscience say it's an incredible game, as it has even less direct interactivity than your usual Visual Novel... but it sets up a very fascinating world full of interesting characters. At least one of the problems you end up listening to will probably hit pretty darn close to home for some people. Most of the dialogue is written very believably too.

Making different drinks at certain points is a fun way to shake up the story on repeat playthroughs, though may prove a bit too monotonous for some people or completionists...

If you're looking for fun gameplay, this might not be for you. If you're looking for a good read, give this a shot.
