I wish steam had a "meh" recommendation option, as that's ultimately what I'd give the game. I went into this game knowing literally nothing besides glowing praise from both people I knew personally as well as various people on the internet, so my hopes were decently high. Going into it I was having a blast, the consistent influx of new puzzles with pieces that I had already found or quickly found after kept me hooked and wanting to find more. Then for no clear reason the game just came to an abrupt halt. I no longer was getting a feeling of progression, rather frustration mainly due to the poor rng of runs. I was aware of all these different pieces and where they likely went or where I knew they went, but run after run I'd get 1/2 pieces to a puzzle then need to reset. At the 5 hour mark is where that frustration bled into just plain boredom. I had unlocked some permanent upgrades, knew what I needed to do, but again the rng was the main factor playing into my runs ending in disappointment. Talking to a friend I'd get repeated hints when asked, but almost every hint was met with "I've never even heard of that room type" or "Yeah I've gotten that room/item once and never again" from me. There are a lot of aspects to what I love about this game, and I could really see myself liking this game and playing a lot more given the enjoyment I've gotten so far, but in a lot of ways I feel like the rng and repetitiveness of (at least the early game) really really holds this back from being something I touch ever again. I've seen people have amazing experiences with the game, talked to others who've had very different beginning hours with the game compared to me, but I think the game I experienced (to a certain extent) was very different from the game others played. I wanna place a lot of the blame for my unenjoyment on the RNG, that's an easy place to blame, but I wonder what aspects of the game I've yet to see that are later exacerbated beyond the already somewhat repetitive and time-wasting aspects I've already experienced.

Actually peak, been with me through thick and thin. Can't wait for the next chapters to see what tricky Toby has up his sleeve.
