fun game but weird controller support

edit: my problem was my USB-C keyboard. everytime I want to play the game I have to unplug my keyboard, then launch with my controller plugged in. after that you can plug in your keyboard again. this may be an issue for some, but for me I was fine with it. hope this helps atleast one person with their controller connection issues :)
