Definitely worth your time, if you're okay with heavier topics of mental health and physical harm. Missed Messages is a game that's free, short, but very very important. You can tell that it's inspired by a real story. Everything does feel believable, and in the good endings, some of the most important things are said, things I wish more people understood. But if there's one thing you should take from this, it's to take the time for people you care about, or it might be too late. You don't have to fix anything. Being there listening is more than enough. It means so much just to be chosen.

If you're thinking about getting Firewatch, you probably should. It's quick, simple, and cheap on sale.

But I think the game is very interesting story wise. It has a way of making you care about its two main characters, and others by extension even in a short time. But first and foremost, this game is an allegory for things we're all familiar with. Guilty of, even. It's about escapism and running away, which is very interesting coming from a game. We play games to escape from reality, to focus on something else, to experience a good story, or to be calm. and this one presents itself as a relaxed experience, "to be calm". Overall, it is, but much like real life, you find yourself worrying about all of these grand things you don't have control of and overthinking. But much like a lot of the events in this game, it's never really that bad in reality. That's why a criticism of Firewatch is that it's underwhelming, because we're so used to these insane adventures that don't want you to think, and even if it's story focused, most don't make you feel the need to look inward. It doesn't have to be crazy, scary, complicated, mentally draining, or heartbreaking. Or on the opposite end, happy-go-lucky, overly comedic, insanely cheerful, or heartwarming. Sometimes it's just normal. Just... human. Play it, and you'll see what I mean.

I've seen that a lot of negative reviews of this game are due to technical issues, and that's completely valid, but such a shame. So get this and install it before you start playing to fix all of the major issues.

https://github.com/DErDYAST1R/Zombi-u-patch (I used the patch without Reshade, so 1.0. I think it looks better naturally.)

This is the only game I was truly terrified of when I was little, and so it felt amazing to beat on permadeath.
Zombi is just genuinely such a great horror game, with some jank and odd parts for sure. I understand the story, but it overall wasn't the main focus. The guns are also kinda cursed, but I do love that you're really incentivized to use them instead of hoarding ammo. Don't do that if you play this game so you can level skills with weapons. The atmosphere and the stress you will feel playing this game are genuinely so hard to come by nowadays. It's really worth a shot if you love horror games.

The first F.E.A.R and its expansions are really great, especially for the time they released. The attention to detail with how weapons react to the environment in various ways, like chipping walls and explosions that make lights shake and flicker is something that isn't seen even today. Same with the AI. It's very smart, and I played through everything on extreme, which was a real challenge. They interact with each other, and it feels like they use real tactics and are definitely a real threat. To be honest, the story felt almost like a backdrop to everything else, but of course you have the famous little ghost girl (that I can't say the name of due to it being spoilers) at the center of the story. The horror part of the game did come with some really well done hallucination sections though. Even though it has issues with level design and it being unclear where to go sometimes, it's definitely worth picking up and playing. However, it has compatibility issues with modern systems as a byproduct of its age. It will not work properly out of the box. So get this. https://github.com/Wemino/EchoPatch

Download and install using the instructions and you're golden.

One of the only games I've ever played to freeze my PC, and it's abandoned by EA with performance issues that were never addressed. I would just recommend staying away, and maybe in the future we'll see a resurgence of some kind because an enhanced edition of the game is coming to Switch 2. Even if you can run it, that doesn't make these problems okay. I should not have to find a community workaround and troubleshoot a AAA game to not freeze that released in 2023.

Now, I really like Warhammer 40K, but this is NOT it. Just go play DOOM if you want something that feels even a bit like this. Everything in this game feels wrong. Animations are subpar and feel so flat, everything feels off and janky, and they packed a bunch of half baked mechanics into the game that don't really work at all. You can use a grapple hook, wall run, execute people, you have a hound that you can command (kinda), you can slow time, and a bunch of other stuff. The problem is that none of it really works and that none of it feels satisfying to use. For example, wall running is almost never used outside of the one time it's introduced from what I've played and seen on the game, because you're in a hive city where everything is either massive or super enclosed with no in between, and a mechanic like wall running doesn't flourish in that environment, especially if your level design doesn't support it. Skill points are used for small upgrades to stats for arbitrary depth, and a loot system with tiers of gear and the works that just isn't fun to use. That's not even getting into all of it (Story, enemies, characters, graphics, etc.) but I feel like that's all I have to say. Gore can look really good though.

The best Far Cry game, and the best imitation of guerilla warfare. The series definitely took a massive tone shift after this one, and although most games after I don't consider to be bad, I wonder what the games would be look if Ubisoft kept improving upon the incredibly immersive, tech demo esque feel this game has.

There are definitely annoying elements to the game, like long drives, annoying enemy checkpoints that respawn quickly on roads, and a malaria mechanic that feels a little tacked on (and buddies do too, the rescues and animations are super cool but I don't really care about any of these people) but is one of many things that can add variety to combat along with gun jams and your weapons LITERALLY EXPLODING if you use them too much XD

The game also is seamless besides saving and loading.

If you decide to play FC2, I'd definitely recommend the Realism+Redux mod. It's easy to install and improves your experience in every way. I only crashed 3 times throughout my entire playthrough, so I'd say it's quite stable. It also removes the brown filter that a lot of games from this era had, making the game more vibrant, it fixes a lot of bugs, and makes the game more fun to play with weapon buffs across the board, along with decreasing enemy health, but also increasing the amount of damage you take. If you like experimentation, do not play on the highest difficulty like I did. Unless you're alright with saving every 5 seconds to try things. Navigation will also be tricky at first due to the mod removing your marker on your map and only having it on your GPS tracker for increased realism, but you will get used to it, I promise. And it made me think a lot and plan out routes more which is really nice, and figuring out where you are and where you need to go using the two tools can be satisfying.

I could go on and on about how the incredibly dense foliage, fire effects, and enemy AI are so ahead of its time and I wish it was expanded upon, but I won't. Go play it, have fun c:

P.S: I don't know if the mod fixes it, but above 60 FPS a lot of things usually break in this game. So use the tool that you have to go through to boot the game with the mod to limit the framerate.

Also I think it was for stylistic and balance purposes but something that annoyed me a little bit about this game was the fact that the charging handle/ejection port on a lot of weapons are on the left side instead of the right like in real life, and your character pulls the charging handle/slide every reload instead of just on empty reloads. It's not a big deal, but this game is trying to be realistic...

All in all, a great game but not without its flaws and a very enjoyable experience, and a nostalgic one for me because I played it first on the Xbox 360 and again on Xbox One and now here. 8.5/10
