A stylish, brutal experience with a mind-♥♥♥♥ of a story and a host of new characters with varying moves, playstyles and executions, which does wonders for the countless levels you'll find on the Workshop. The overall feel of the gameplay is an improvement from the first one, feeling a lot more fluid; melee hits tend to connect better, gunplay feels more efficient and the AI feels more responsive. The art style looks amazing, considering it's a top-down 16-bit shooter, with simple yet satisfying sound design and visual response every time you kill someone. And the soundtrack is just...something else entirely.

Only problems I have with this game are the dogs, which undermine what I just said about AI by getting themselves caught spinning in circles in some places, or due to their tendency to follow walls closely, you'll lose track of them and lose your combo before you progress to another floor. Also, doors. Never in my life have I hated a wooden rectangle more than this game. They're the biggest issue with the flow of gameplay, enemies can get caught in them, if an enemy is remotely near one, they'll get knocked down (which is awful if you're going for combos because ground executions can sometimes last longer than your combo window) and going through them makes them shake like crazy. These issues only really become overly prevalent when you're trying to go for higher combos, however.

With all that in mind, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number remains my favourite game of all time, nothing has topped how good it feels to clear a floor of goons to such a fantastic soundtrack, only to be hit with the sobering reality of your actions on that walk back to your car when the synth comes to a halt. This game introduced me to my favourite genre of music and it left me with an addiction for fast paced gameplay in literally any other game I play, for better or for worse. Get Hotline Miami 1 if you haven't, then get this. Then once you're done with both of those, play TheLegoMACK's Hunter Saga on the workshop.
