Welcome to my review of Arma III: Contact.
Arma with aliens sounds to good to be true, that's because it is. In this DLC you pay 30 USD to run around in the forest with a glorified TV antenna and are asked to play classical music for the Alien UFO. Campaign is short with only 6 "chapters" which are about an hour a piece, but don't be fooled, its all the same stuff rinse and repeat. Your enemies are humans and your job is to carry a bootleg TV antenna and play some music to try and communicate with aliens...

Would be better if there were actual aliens, not just the same 3 UFO models zooming around the map. This is a laughing stock of a dlc... Better off just buying XCOM.

lol @ Possum, you know the base game is set in 2035, right? the whole game is technically sci-fi already.. I mean some of the weapons you get to use are in development atm as prototypes but most of the base game is set 22yrs in the future as of release in 2013.. even today 5 years on its still in the future.. Also; what Russians? It's mighty hard to reskin something that wasn't part of the game before this DLC lol. I'm looking at the pictures for the 223rd units (Spetsnaz) they look decent as far as fitting into the rest of the game I have no idea what you're on about but I knew subscribing to this thread was a good idea, it's going to be a source of laughs for a long time I think :lunar2019coolpig:

They didn't even reskin any vehicles for the fucking Russians.

This DLC was a blatant ripoff to grub in sci-fi fans, and I'm surprised there are people stupid enough to defend it. I'm SO FUCKING GLAD I refunded before the DLC released, was not impressed with the beta, even less impressed that they released a beta.

You're in an active military area, aliens drop in unexpectedly, you're tasked to study the new arrivals.. Idk about you guys but as a first encounter situation, aliens or not.. when you discover a new force operating in your area do you immediately opt to destroy them when you don't know whether they're friend or foe I mean is your arma experience so limited that you only think to kill everything and everyone? :lunar2019deadpanpig: just sayin'.. arma's not always about blowing shit up..

Haven't bought or played the DLC but having a good laugh at all these comments and reviews, I've been playing the Arma series since 2002. The thing with Bi is you pretty much get what they tell you straight up, there's no sugar coating in their words. You can't blame them for your own misconceptions. quoting the DLC description "Bohemia Interactive presents: Arma 3 Contact – a spin-off expansion about the most important discovery in the history of mankind. As a soldier deployed to Livonia’s militarized Nadbór region, you will be among the first to study our alien visitors and determine their intentions. However, amid the tension and chaos, armed conflict inevitably unfolds." - There's no mention of fighting aliens here.. don't blame the developers because you guys don't have a decent level of reading comprehension lol.. :lunar2019grinningpig:

The map is poorly optimized for this DLC. Just no excuse for it, really. I'm shocked at how bad it is.

if you are not a person who takes into account of all of the active assets each mission uses then you have yet to know anything about how arma 3 works because each mission provides a map wide range of entities and more to each of their own thing which does take a toll on the pc and if it was a server that server would take most of the load but you are running everything on your pc so essentialy you are using RAM and your graphics card to run arma 3 in large detail even on low

@Sovereign I dont think this is by any means a masterpiece. When I played the story I had about 20 to 27 FPS though out. The last mission was 15 to 20, But I still had fun and did not expect to much from the arma 3 engine so i was not let down. Was the price high yes but not by to much. The guys are not greedy they are one of the few dev teams out there that still care about making a game for there fans enjoyment not just for there money.

You people went into this expecting way more then what is posible with the Arma 3 engine. I thought the price was a little to high to but I still think your give then a way harder time then what is needed. I have already put many hours into this dlc and the new assets look vary good. At lest far better then any mod content out the. SMA and VHS are the only mods that come close to this. So no I dont belive they are Arma 2 assets. For the guy comparing Arma 3 dlc to Xcom you got to be kidding. There completly diffrent games on massively diffrent scales.
